How to install Wispr Flow on Mac
Last updated: June 5, 2026
Available on: Mac
Install Wispr Flow on your Mac in under a minute. This guide walks you through downloading the app, moving it to Applications, and resolving the most common install errors.
Quick checks
Is your Mac on macOS 12.0 or later? Click the Apple menu → About This Mac. Wispr Flow requires macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later.
Do you know if your Mac is Apple Silicon or Intel? Click the Apple menu → About This Mac and check the Chip or Processor line. There are separate downloads for each — using the wrong one will cause the app to quit on launch.
How to install
Download Wispr Flow from wisprflow.ai. Select the Apple Silicon or Intel version that matches your Mac.
Open the downloaded .dmg file. An installer window appears showing the Wispr Flow icon and an Applications folder shortcut.
Drag the Wispr Flow icon onto the Applications folder in the installer window.
Close the installer window.
Open Wispr Flow from your Applications folder, or press ⌘ + Space and type "Wispr Flow" to launch it from Spotlight. The Wispr Flow icon should appear in your menu bar at the top of the screen.
Grant microphone permission when macOS prompts you. If you previously denied access, Flow will open System Settings → Privacy & Security so you can enable it manually.
Note: Wispr Flow runs in your menu bar only — it does not appear in the Dock or the ⌘+Tab switcher. It also sets itself to launch automatically at login.
Important: Always launch Wispr Flow from your Applications folder, Launchpad, or Spotlight — not from the still-open installer window. Launching from the installer window triggers a "Flow needs to be in the Applications folder to run" error, even after you've dragged the app into Applications. If you see this error, dismiss it, re-open the .dmg if needed, drag Wispr Flow into Applications, and launch from Applications, Launchpad, or Spotlight.
Common issues
Multiple Wispr Flow icons stacking up in the Dock after updates
This was fixed in a recent update. Update to the latest version to resolve it. After updating, only the menu bar icon should be visible — Wispr Flow does not normally run in the Dock.
FAQs
Can I install Wispr Flow somewhere other than the Applications folder?
No. Wispr Flow must be installed in an Applications folder on your Mac (/Applications, ~/Applications, or /System/Applications) to work correctly.
How do I eject the installer after installing?
Right-click the Wispr Flow disk icon on your desktop (or in Finder's sidebar) and select Eject. You can also delete the .dmg file from your Downloads folder to free up space.
I see an "Incorrect App Version" error about running the Intel version on Apple Silicon
Wispr Flow shows a dialog titled Incorrect App Version with the message: "You are running the Intel version of Wispr Flow on an Apple Silicon Mac. Please download the Apple Silicon version from wisprflow.ai for better performance." After you dismiss the dialog, the app quits. I see an "Unsupported MacOS Version" error
Wispr Flow shows a dialog titled Unsupported MacOS Version with the message: "Wispr Flow requires MacOS 12.0 or later. Please upgrade your operating system to continue." Go to System Settings → General → Software Update to update your Mac, then try installing again.
