Installing Wispr Flow on Windows: what to expect from the downloadable installer

Available on: Windows 10 or 11 (x64 only)

The installer closing on its own, or Flow launching without a window, is expected. The standard download installs for your user account without administrator permissions; IT-managed, machine-wide MSI installations in Program Files require administrator rights.

How to install Wispr Flow on Windows

  1. Download the Windows installer from wisprflow.ai.

  2. Double-click the downloaded installer in your Downloads folder.

  3. Wait for installation to finish. The installer can close without an error while installation continues, so a closed installer does not confirm setup is complete.

  4. Launch Wispr Flow from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.

On a new install, the main window (the hub) opens with onboarding, and keeps opening at launch until onboarding is complete.

Starting up after installation

Flow turns on Launch app at login automatically at the first launch of a new install, without a confirmation dialog. Change it in Settings → System → App settings; changes take effect at the next launch, not mid-session.

Enabled

Flow starts in the background at login, and when opened after quitting, without opening the hub.

Disabled

Opening Flow opens the hub.

To open the hub, click Flow's icon in the Windows system tray, open its shortcut while Flow is already running, or choose Settings → Restart Flow. Closing the hub doesn't quit Flow — it keeps running in the tray.

Note: While Flow is applying an update, the hub won't open at launch, including after Settings → Restart Flow.

After onboarding, the Flow Bar is shown unless you hide it in Settings → System or snooze it from the bar.

Dictation and the Notetaker become available once onboarding is complete. Before then, starting the Notetaker from the tray, a keyboard shortcut, the Flow Bar, or the notepad Record button opens onboarding with a prompt to finish setup; you can still open existing synced meetings to read them.

If antivirus software or a locked file prevents startup entries from updating, Launch app at login can appear on without working.

If an installation error appears

On non-x64 devices, Flow closes after showing Unsupported Windows Architecture: “Wispr Flow requires x64 architecture. Please use a compatible Windows device to continue.”

For any other error dialog:

  1. Record the exact error text.

  2. Dismiss the dialog.

  3. Run the installer again. If the error returns, contact support; otherwise launch Flow from its shortcut.

FAQs

Can Windows show a security warning?

Official Windows releases are signed by Wispr AI, Inc., so downloads from wisprflow.ai should not show “Unknown Publisher.” SmartScreen can still show “Windows protected your PC” for a newly published release; continue through this prompt for an official download.

Why didn't reinstalling reset Flow?

The standard Windows uninstaller keeps your user data and session, so reinstalling restores your existing settings and skips onboarding. For a completely clean install, contact support for help removing the remaining data before reinstalling.
