Installing Wispr Flow on Windows: what to expect from the downloadable installer
Last updated: August 20, 2026
Available on: Windows
Install Wispr Flow on Windows in a few clicks: no administrator password, and the installer closes itself when it's done. Here's how to start it, how to tell it worked, and what to do if an error dialog appears.
How to install Wispr Flow on Windows
Download the installer from wisprflow.ai. It lands in your Downloads folder.
Double-click the installer file. No administrator password or elevation prompt appears.
Wait for the Downloading Wispr Flow window to close on its own once the full installer has downloaded.
Launch Wispr Flow from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut. If neither shortcut exists, close any open installer window and run the installer again.
Note: The download window has no cancel or close button. To stop the download, end the Wispr Flow Installer process in Task Manager; any partial temporary file is reclaimed by Windows automatically.
Starting up after installation
Your first launch shows onboarding and opens the hub. After that, startup depends on Launch app at login in Settings → System → App settings, which Flow turns on automatically for new installs:
Enabled: Flow starts silently in the background at login — the tray icon and Flow Bar are ready, but the hub does not open. Click the tray icon to open it. Manually launching Flow after quitting also starts it in the background.
Disabled: Launching Flow opens the hub.
Note: Launching Flow while it's already running opens the hub, as does Settings → Restart Flow. The hub won't open at launch while Flow is applying an update. Closing the hub window doesn't quit Flow — it keeps running in the tray.
FAQs
Will I be asked for administrator permissions?
No. The installer never prompts for elevation or administrator credentials, so you can install Wispr Flow without IT involvement.
The splash window closed but nothing else happened — did it install?
If it closed without an error dialog, setup completed. Check your Start menu or desktop for the Wispr Flow shortcut.
An error dialog appeared — what do I do?
Every failure message starts with "Wispr Flow couldn't finish installing." followed by the reason — for example "We couldn't reach the download server.", "The download didn't finish.", "The downloaded file failed a security check.", or "The installer downloaded but wouldn't start." Note the message, dismiss the dialog, and run the installer again. If it repeats, contact support with the exact error text.
I launched the installer from a terminal and it returned immediately — is something wrong?
No. The installer runs as a graphical application, so the command returns right away while the splash window keeps running. To capture the installer's exit code from PowerShell, use Start-Process -Wait.
The progress bar seems stuck — is the download frozen?
The full installer is several hundred MB, so progress can look slow on a slower connection. As long as the MB counter keeps incrementing, the download is active. If the window stops responding, end the Wispr Flow Installer process in Task Manager and run the installer again. Double-clicking the installer while a download is running does nothing — a second copy exits silently.
Is the download secure?
Yes. The installer downloads only from Wispr's official download host, and the setup file is verified for exact size, hash match, and a valid Wispr code-signing signature before it runs. If any check fails, the install stops with "The downloaded file failed a security check."
Limitations and notes
The Windows installer needs an internet connection to download the full setup; it cannot install offline from the initial download alone.
Silent background startup at login applies to Windows only; macOS startup behavior is unchanged.
If antivirus or a locked file blocks Windows startup entries from updating, Launch app at login may show as on without taking effect.
