Offline meeting recording in Notetaker

Last updated: August 20, 2026

Available on: Mac

If you lose internet mid-meeting — or start one while offline — Notetaker keeps recording. Audio is captured locally, with your consent, and transcribed automatically once you're back online.

How it works in Flow

Key behaviors

  • Entering Offline mode: When connectivity drops mid-meeting, you start a meeting offline, or transcription is unavailable at the start (shown as a "Record offline" option), Notetaker asks you to confirm Offline mode, then buffers audio locally. Decline and recording stops.

  • Back online: Notetaker shows a "Back online" state and resumes live transcription automatically.

  • Transcript markers: Offline gaps get a marker such as "Offline for 4m — audio was captured and will be transcribed after the meeting," replaced by the full text once transcription completes.

  • Post-meeting transcription: Offline audio is transcribed and refined after the meeting ends, appearing in the Transcript tab of the meeting view alongside live-transcribed sections. Speaker attribution appears here, not in real time.

  • Long meetings: Audio is kept on disk after the meeting ends, then re-encoded and uploaded automatically. Closing your laptop lid does not interrupt this — encoding resumes when your Mac wakes.

  • If live transcription never connects: With at least 10 seconds of audio captured locally, Notetaker saves the recording on your device without uploading or summarizing it. Shorter recordings are treated as accidental starts and discarded automatically.

FAQs

Will I lose any of my meeting if I go offline?

No. If you accept the consent prompt, audio is captured locally for the entire offline period and nothing is discarded.

How do I remove a recording that was saved locally without transcription?

Press Discard on the notification card; dismissing or ignoring the card leaves the recording intact. Discarding also frees up your weekly Notetaker quota slot.

Is offline recording available on Windows?

No. Notetaker is currently available on Mac only.

Limitations and notes

  • Offline mode is available on Mac only.

  • Offline recording requires your explicit consent — Notetaker will not buffer audio without it.

  • Post-meeting transcription of offline sections begins once your internet connection is restored.

  • If you renamed speakers while offline and the meeting was re-transcribed (for example, after pausing and resuming a recording, or clicking "Update Summary"), those names may be applied out of order. Re-assigning speakers after re-transcription corrects this.
