Voice Profile updates: when the 'Update your Voice Profile' notification appears

Your Voice Profile learns how you speak so Flow transcribes you more accurately, and it refreshes as you dictate more. Here's what the progress bar counts, when the "Update your Voice Profile" prompt appears, and what Refresh does.

What the progress bar counts

The Voice Profile progress bar shows "Next update in N more words" — the dictation still needed before Flow can build a new profile. Because a profile is built from the dictation history stored on your device, the counter reflects the real remaining amount rather than your lifetime word total. As you keep dictating, the number goes down.

Note: Deleting dictation history from your device reduces the material available for a refresh, so the counter can go up again.

When the update prompt appears

The "Update your Voice Profile" notification appears only once a refresh can run. Two things have to line up:

  • Enough dictation overall: you've reached the next update milestone.

  • Enough stored history: your device holds enough recent dictation for Flow to learn from.

If only the milestone is met, no prompt appears yet and the progress bar keeps counting down. Flow rechecks on each dictation, so the prompt appears on the dictation that completes the requirement — you don't need to restart Flow or revisit settings.

Refresh your Voice Profile

  1. Open the "Update your Voice Profile" notification, or go to your Voice Profile in Flow.

  2. Select Refresh. The new profile starts generating immediately.

  3. Keep dictating as usual while Flow builds it.

If Refresh isn't offered yet, the progress bar shows how much more dictation is needed.

FAQs

Why did the remaining word count go up?

Some of the dictation history stored on your device was removed, so Flow needs more new dictation before it can build an updated profile.

Does refreshing replace my existing Voice Profile?

Yes. Refresh builds an updated profile from your recent dictation and uses it for future transcriptions.
