Can I upload audio files to Wispr Flow for transcription?
Last updated: August 31, 2026
Available on: Mac, Windows, iOS, Android
No. Wispr Flow transcribes live speech from your microphone as you speak. There is no way to upload, attach, or import an existing audio or video file on any platform or plan. That includes iPhone Voice Memos, meeting recordings, .mp3 and .m4a files, video files, and audio stored in cloud services.
What Flow captures instead
Live dictation: Transcribes while you speak into any text field. Sessions are capped at 20 minutes on Mac and Windows, 5 minutes on iOS and Android.
Notetaker (Mac): Records and transcribes a meeting as it happens, including system audio from other participants. It cannot process a recording made outside Flow.
Otter transcript import (Mac): Brings across finished Otter.ai transcripts, not audio files. Available on Personal and Pro plans, not for Enterprise organizations.
If you record on your iPhone to transcribe later
Dictate with Flow at the moment you would otherwise hit record, and you get the transcript immediately.
Flow keyboard: Dictate straight into Messages, Mail, Notes, or any app with a text field.
No text field handy: Use the Action Button, Lock Screen widget, Control Center controls, or Siri Shortcuts to capture a thought into Flow Notes or your clipboard. Requires iOS 18.3 or later.
Note: iOS sessions cap at 5 minutes. For anything longer, dictate in several passes.
FAQs
Does the Otter import let me upload audio files?
No. It accepts Otter.ai TXT transcript exports containing speaker names and timestamps. Audio, PDF, and SRT files are rejected.
Can Notetaker transcribe a meeting recording I already have?
No. Notetaker captures audio live. Start it before or during the call, not afterward from a saved file.
Can I download the audio from a dictation I already made?
Yes, on Mac and Windows. From your history you can play back a recording or download it as a .wav file for up to 14 days. Audio is stored locally per device and does not sync. If your workspace data-retention policy is set to Never store, no audio is saved.
Will audio file upload be added?
We don't have a timeline to share. Submit a feature request at support.wisprflow.ai, which routes to the product team.
