Fix Logitech MX Master (Logi Options+) mouse buttons not working as a Flow shortcut

If your Logitech MX Master button won’t start dictation, won’t stop it on release, or won’t save as a Flow shortcut, match the button’s Logi Options+ assignment to Flow’s shortcut.

Quick checks

  • Is Logi Options+ running? In the background it can intercept button presses before they reach Flow.

  • Microphone test or onboarding: Dictation shortcuts are ignored during microphone tests, including the microphone-selection dialog, and before onboarding reaches the dictation step. Exit the test or reach that step before retrying.

  • Does a keyboard shortcut work in Flow? Check your assigned Push to talk shortcut in Settings → Shortcuts, then test it on your keyboard. If it works, the problem is the Logitech button mapping; if not, the problem is Flow's shortcuts overall, not the mouse.

How to fix this

On Mac, Logi Options+ converts MX Master side-button presses into swipe gestures without a button release. Push-to-talk needs both press and release, so those remapped buttons cannot be bound directly. Buttons not remapped by Options+ bind normally. This behavior is documented for macOS; results on Windows may vary.

Note: On macOS, do not uninstall or quit Logi Options+ as a workaround: without it, MX-series side buttons do not work with Flow.

Push-to-talk defaults are Fn on Mac and Ctrl+Win on Windows; hands-free defaults are Fn+Space on Mac and Ctrl+Win+Space on Windows.

On Mac, Ctrl+Opt is assigned during onboarding only if there is no Apple Fn key and Push-to-talk is still Fn. If Ctrl+Opt isn’t already assigned, bind it in Flow first.

  1. Open Logi Options+ and select your mouse.

  2. Map the button to a keyboard shortcut in Logi Options+ and bind that same shortcut in Flow.

    1. Open Flow’s Settings → Shortcuts.

    2. Click the Push to talk shortcut field, or Click to add a shortcut if empty.

    3. Press and release the same keyboard combination you assigned in Logi Options+.

  3. Hold the mouse button while speaking, then release it.

“Shortcut saved” confirms capture. If dictation starts on press and stops on release, you’re done; otherwise, continue below.

If the button still doesn’t work

Warning: Release the mouse button before quitting Flow. On Windows, quitting while holding a bound button can trigger Back/Forward once when you release it.

  1. Quit and reopen Wispr Flow, then press your shortcut.

If the mouse button still does nothing, contact support below. If dictation starts, check its behavior:

  • Single quick tap: Releasing within 500 ms of starting does not stop dictation; it starts a 500 ms wait, then cancels if nothing else happens.

  • Double press: A second press within that window locks hands-free mode; a later press stops it.

  • Another shortcut: Using the dictation modifiers in a non-Flow shortcut within 1 second of starting cancels dictation unless hands-free is locked.

Warning: A third rapid press while hands-free is locked cancels dictation instead of stopping and pasting it.

For push-to-talk, use a held press rather than repeated taps. Dismiss cancels dictation: Esc is the default and works alone for this action, but use your replacement shortcut if you rebound it.

Automatic stuck-input recovery does not interrupt a push-to-talk shortcut you are still holding.

Shortcut rules

Standard mice with more than three buttons are compatible; three-button mice, Apple Magic Mouse and trackpads are not. Logitech MX Master, MX Anywhere, MX Ergo, MX Vertical, Lift, M720, M750, M705 and Marathon need Options+ reconfiguration. Logitech G-series and other standard multi-button mice do not.

  • Combinations: Use up to 3 keys, including Ctrl, Cmd/Win, Alt/Opt, Shift, Fn or a supported mouse button. Keyboard-and-mouse combinations such as Ctrl + Mouse 4 are allowed.

  • Rejected combinations: OS-reserved shortcuts; letters, numbers or punctuation alone; both left and right versions of one modifier; and shortcuts already assigned elsewhere. Windows also rejects Ctrl alone. Re-saving the binding currently being edited is allowed.

  • Mouse buttons: Mac supports Middle Click and Mouse 4–Mouse 10; Windows supports Middle Click, Mouse 4 and Mouse 5. Left and right click cannot be bound.

  • Additional bindings: Add another allows up to four bindings per action. It is unavailable on an empty row or Cancel, which supports one binding.

When several rules fail, errors appear in this order: reserved, already used, missing modifier, over three keys, left/right modifier conflict.

Bind a button directly

At “Press key or mouse button”, a mouse press saves immediately; keyboard combinations save on release.

  1. Set the chosen button to No action in Logi Options+.

  2. Click the Push to talk shortcut field in Flow’s Settings → Shortcuts.

  3. Press the mouse button to capture it.

Test it using the final mapping step above.

Cancel recording or remove a binding

While recording, left click, right click, clicking outside, the X button or bare Esc cancels silently without changing the binding. The cancelling click does not activate the app underneath. Esc instead records a binding for Dismiss; for other actions, Ctrl then Esc records Ctrl+Esc, but Esc first cancels.

Remove shortcut clears a binding immediately. It is hidden for the only Push-to-talk binding: rebind that shortcut or use Reset to default. Hands-free can remain empty after its last binding is removed, including after relaunch. Reset to default restores default bindings, including removed Hands-free shortcuts.

Clicks in the app underneath

On Mac and Windows, a normal mouse button bound to any Flow action no longer clicks or navigates in the app underneath. While Flow is running, changing a binding mid-hold does not create a stray release or leave the app with a stuck button.

Some Logitech buttons appear as “Aux Button” and can be bound alone. They are reported as keyboard keys, so they can trigger Flow and still click the app underneath. Use the keyboard-mapping steps above instead.
