Using Wispr Flow on Android Work Profiles

Last updated: June 13, 2026

Available on: Android 13 and above

If the accessibility toggle for Wispr Flow is grayed out, missing, or won't stay on, this guide walks you through enabling it. Most users get this working in under 3 minutes.

Quick checks

  • Have you granted overlay permission? Wispr Flow asks for "Display over other apps" permission first — accessibility comes second.

  • Is the toggle grayed out or missing entirely? A device security policy may be blocking restricted settings. If you're on a managed work device, try installing Wispr Flow on a personal device to confirm — this tells you whether the problem is your device policy or Wispr Flow itself.

How to enable accessibility permissions

The first two steps are the same on every device:

  1. Open Wispr Flow and follow the onboarding flow, or go to Settings if you've already completed onboarding.

  2. Read the legal consent screen and tap Agree. The system Accessibility Settings opens immediately after. You can also tap Not now to skip ahead to the Privacy Notice step.

Once you reach Accessibility Settings, follow the steps for your device. The accessibility service entry may be labeled Effortless voice dictation under Wispr Flow on some devices.

Note: On some devices, a floating video guide appears to walk you through the remaining steps. It plays without sound and dismisses automatically once the permission is granted.

Samsung

In Accessibility Settings:

  1. Find "Installed apps" in the list, then tap Wispr Flow.

  2. Turn on the accessibility service toggle. The toggle should now show as enabled, and Wispr Flow returns you to setup.

Xiaomi (including Redmi and Poco)

In Accessibility Settings:

  1. Find "Downloaded apps" in the list, then tap Wispr Flow.

  2. Turn on the accessibility service toggle.

  3. Tap OK on the additional confirmation dialog that appears. Wispr Flow then returns you to setup.

Vivo and Motorola

In Accessibility Settings:

  1. Find Wispr Flow directly in the list.

  2. Turn on the accessibility service toggle. Wispr Flow returns you to setup.

Google Pixel, OnePlus, and other devices

In Accessibility Settings:

  1. Find "Downloaded apps" in the list, then tap Wispr Flow.

  2. Turn on the accessibility service toggle. Wispr Flow returns you to setup.

Warning: Keep the "Wispr Flow shortcut" toggle off. The shortcut is not required and can cause issues if enabled accidentally.

Note: Wispr Flow returns you to setup automatically for a few minutes after you grant the permission. If recovery doesn't happen on its own, reopen Wispr Flow manually.

Fixing the accessibility shortcut error

If the Wispr Flow shortcut is accidentally enabled, you'll see an in-app screen titled "Oops, something isn't right" during permission setup. The screen says "Accessibility access is required to insert your dictations" and "Make sure this shortcut is turned off", with a button labeled Open settings.

  1. Tap Open settings to go to Accessibility Settings.

  2. Find the Wispr Flow shortcut toggle and turn it off.

  3. Enable the main accessibility service toggle. The app automatically returns to setup once the correct permission is detected.

Common issues

The Flow Bubble shows a warning triangle or pulsing loader after permission was granted

This can happen when the accessibility service is silently dropped after a force-stop, system restart, or Android revoking the permission. Wispr Flow now recovers its accessibility service automatically, and shows a Repair prompt on the bubble to guide you when it can't recover on its own.

Two bubble states indicate what's happening:

  • Pulsing loader: Flow detected the issue and is trying to restore the accessibility service automatically. The bubble is temporarily not tappable. If successful, normal dictation resumes on its own and a "Flow Bubble reconnected" toast confirms the repair.

  • Warning triangle: If automatic recovery does not succeed within a minute, the pulsing loader escalates to a warning triangle. Tap the triangle to open an in-app accessibility repair screen where you can re-enable Flow.

The Repair prompt is only shown while a text field is focused.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

  2. Wait a moment if you see the pulsing loader — Flow is attempting to reconnect on its own.

  3. Tap the warning triangle if it appears, then re-enable the accessibility toggle on the screen that opens.

Snooze card stays stuck after force-stop, or shake-to-unsnooze stops working

The snooze card could fail to clear after a force-stop, and shake-to-unsnooze could stop working. Both are fixed in the latest version.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

  2. Restart Flow if the snooze card is still stuck after updating.

The Flow Bubble appears clipped on OnePlus devices

The Flow Bubble was being clipped on some OnePlus devices, with only thin slivers of Cancel and Done buttons visible.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version. The issue resolves automatically after updating.

Flow doesn't start automatically after rebooting my phone

Wispr Flow now starts automatically when your phone boots, as long as accessibility permission is enabled.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

  2. Verify that accessibility permission is enabled and battery optimization is disabled for Wispr Flow.

  3. Reboot your phone. Flow should start automatically.

Note: On some Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Samsung devices, the system may not re-bind the accessibility service after boot. If that happens, the bubble won't appear until you open Flow manually once. Enabling autostart and whitelisting Flow in your device's battery settings helps avoid this.

Dictated text wasn't inserted correctly in chat apps

Dictated text could fail to appear in chat apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, Signal, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Discord, or Wispr Flow could fall back to the clipboard or show an insertion error even when the text was inserted correctly. Text insertion in these apps now works reliably, eliminating spurious errors and unwanted clipboard usage.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

The Flow Bubble disappears after revoking microphone permission

If you revoke microphone permission while Wispr Flow is running, the Flow Bubble now stays visible so you can re-grant permission without losing the overlay.

  1. Tap the Flow Bubble to open the permission re-grant screen.

  2. Grant microphone access. Recording capability is restored — tap the bubble to start a new dictation session.

Wispr Flow crashes in apps with complex layouts

Some apps with deeply nested screen layouts (for example, TikTok, WeChat, and Xiaohongshu) could trigger Android system crashes. Wispr Flow now guards against these crashes so the app stays stable while using those apps.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

The Flow Bubble disappears and doesn't come back

This can happen when Android shuts down Wispr Flow in the background due to battery management, low memory, or a crash. Bringing Wispr Flow to the foreground now automatically restarts the Flow Bubble, as long as you're still signed in and accessibility permission is still granted.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

  2. Open Wispr Flow to bring it to the foreground. The bubble reappears.

  3. Follow the on-screen prompt to re-grant accessibility permission if asked.

After re-granting permissions, Flow left me in Android Settings instead of returning to the app

Wispr Flow now returns to the foreground as soon as the overlay permission is granted from a home-screen error card.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

  2. Tap the overlay error card on the home screen and re-grant the requested permission. Wispr Flow opens automatically when done.

Note: Auto-return currently applies to the overlay permission error card only. If you re-grant accessibility permission via its error card, you'll still need to reopen Wispr Flow manually.

Accessibility permission gets revoked when switching between work and personal profiles

The app could misidentify why the accessibility service stopped and fail to resume correctly. This is fixed in the latest version.

  1. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.

  2. Re-enable the accessibility toggle using the steps above if you still see permission prompts.

FAQs

Why does Wispr Flow need accessibility permissions?

Wispr Flow uses accessibility permissions to detect which app you're typing in and insert transcribed text. A legal consent screen explains exactly what data Wispr Flow accesses before you enable the permission.

What is the floating guide that sometimes appears when I open Accessibility Settings?

On some devices, a small floating video loops through the steps to help you find and enable the correct toggle. It plays without sound and dismisses on its own once you grant the permission. Pressing the back button while the guide is expanded minimizes it rather than closing it, so you can follow along without losing your place.

What is the Repair prompt and when does it appear?

The Repair prompt appears on the Flow Bubble — as either a pulsing loader or a warning triangle — when Wispr Flow detects that its accessibility service has stopped or needs to be re-enabled. Flow attempts automatic recovery first; the warning triangle only appears if that recovery does not succeed or the permission has been revoked. Tapping the warning triangle opens an in-app accessibility repair screen. The prompt remains until the accessibility service reconnects.

Is my sensitive data safe?

Wispr Flow automatically hides the dictation bubble and skips text insertion for password fields, phone number inputs, numeric-only fields, and web password fields. It also avoids most credit card fields, and the Flow Bubble is automatically hidden in recognized banking and financial apps.

The bubble remains available in browser address bars and in system notification inline-reply boxes, even when those fields use sensitive input types.

You can enable Privacy Mode by going to Settings → Data & Privacy → Privacy mode. When enabled, data is kept only on your device. If your account is part of an enterprise organization, Privacy Mode is automatically enabled during onboarding.

Why do I sometimes see a notification from Wispr Flow?

Wispr Flow may show an Accessibility Status notification if its accessibility service is disabled — tap it to re-enable, or it will auto-clear once the service reconnects.

What if Wispr Flow stops working when I switch apps?

Disable battery optimization for Wispr Flow. The app guides you through this during setup for Samsung, Xiaomi (including Redmi and Poco), OnePlus, Vivo, Motorola (including Lenovo), Huawei/Honor, Oppo, Realme, and Transsion (Tecno/Infinix/itel) devices. Google Pixel devices generally don't require this extra step.

Is enterprise or work profile support coming?

Full enterprise management and work profile deployment features are not currently available on Android, though SSO/SAML authentication is supported. For enterprise deployment with MDM tools (Jamf Pro, Kandji, Intune, etc.), Wispr Flow currently supports macOS and Windows. Contact support to discuss your team's needs.
