Move and Dock the Flow Bar on Desktop

Last updated: July 9, 2026

Available on: Mac, Windows

The Flow Bar is the small bubble that shows your dictation status. Drag it to any edge of your screen — bottom, left, or right — and it stays there across app restarts.

How to move the Flow Bar

  1. Click and hold the Flow Bar bubble. Three pill-shaped drop zones appear, one inset from each supported edge (bottom, left, right).

  2. Drag the bubble toward the edge where you want it docked. The target drop zone highlights as you hover over it.

  3. Release over a drop zone to snap the bar to that edge. The bar immediately moves and locks into place.

Tip: Press Escape at any point during the drag to cancel and return the bar to its current position.

How it works

Vertical layout when side-docked

When docked to the left or right edge, the Flow Bar reorients vertically. The waveform, progress indicator, pickers, and tooltips all reflow to fit the vertical orientation.

  • Extension pills: Status pills stack vertically along the bar.

  • Tooltips and menus: Tooltips and extension context menus open toward the center of the screen so they stay fully visible.

  • Banners: Wider messages such as polish-completed notifications and auto-cleanup alerts expand inward from the docked edge.

Position persistence

Your chosen dock position is saved automatically. The Flow Bar appears in the same position the next time you launch the app — no manual setup required each session.

Common issues

Flow Bar briefly flickers over the macOS Dock when finishing or canceling a drag

When dropping the Flow Bar onto a new dock position or pressing Escape to cancel a drag, the bar could briefly flash over the macOS Dock. A dark overlay could also flash inside the bar at the start of a drag. Both visual glitches have been fixed — update Wispr Flow to the latest version to get the fix.

Flow Bar appears behind the Dock or is cut off on the right side (macOS with left-side Dock)

When the macOS Dock was positioned on the left side of the screen, the Flow Bar and its overlay could render behind the Dock and stop short on the right edge. This has been fixed — the Flow Bar now correctly anchors to the available work area regardless of where the macOS Dock is positioned. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version to get the fix.

FAQs

Can I dock the Flow Bar to the top of the screen?

No. The Flow Bar can only be docked to the bottom, left, or right edge of the screen. Top-edge docking is not supported.

Will the Flow Bar remember my position if I restart my computer?

Yes. Your dock position is saved and restored automatically each time Wispr Flow launches, including after a full system restart.

What happens if I accidentally start dragging?

Press Escape while dragging to cancel. The Flow Bar returns to its current docked position without any changes.

The drag-to-dock option isn't showing up for me. Why?

This feature is rolling out gradually. If you don't see the drop zones when dragging the Flow Bar, it may not yet be available to your account. Make sure Wispr Flow is up to date and check back after a future update. Any left or right docked position you previously set is still respected, and the bar remains draggable so you can reposition it if needed.

Does this work on iOS or Android?

No. Dragging and docking the Flow Bar is a desktop-only feature, available on Mac and Windows.

Limitations and notes

  • This feature is available on Mac and Windows only. It is not available on iOS or Android.

  • The Flow Bar can be docked to the bottom, left, or right edge. The top edge is not a supported dock position.

  • Some seasonal decorations on the Flow Bar (such as the Santa decoration) only appear when the bar is in the bottom dock position.

  • Drag-to-dock is rolling out gradually and may not be enabled for all accounts yet. If dragging does not reveal drop zones, update to the latest version and check again.
