Dictation session time limits on Android

If Flow submitted your transcription mid-sentence on Android, you hit the 5-minute session limit. Flow warns you a minute beforehand, submits automatically at the limit, and saves your text as if you had stopped yourself.

How it works in Flow

Key behaviors

• Warning at about 4 minutes: A toast reads "1 minute left before you reach the 5-minute limit," paired with a short vibration. Recording continues.

• Auto-submit at 5 minutes: Flow submits your transcription with no action from you, confirms with a toast ("Session ended, 5-minute limit reached"), and posts a notification that stays in the shade ("Session ended — Flow supports up to 5 minutes per session.").

• Both fire only while recording: If you have already stopped, neither the warning nor the auto-submit triggers.

• Transcripts always save: Even when the transcript can't be pasted, it is saved to your dictation history.

• Start/stop sounds: Android plays them with no toggle to disable them. On iOS, Settings → Audio → "Interaction Sounds" controls them.

Best practices

• Break long dictations into multiple sessions. Finish a thought, let it submit, then start a new session.

• Start wrapping up at the warning so auto-submit lands at a natural stopping point.

After the session ends

The transcript is saved to transcript history on the Android and iOS home screens, where you can copy it, retry a failed transcription, or delete it. Transcripts are stored locally per device and do not sync across devices. On iOS, interrupted dictations that never produced a transcript are auto-retried after about 2 minutes.
