Why Wispr Flow waits to install updates while you're using it

Wispr Flow downloads updates in the background and applies them later, so an update never interrupts you mid-task.

How it works

  • Active work holds the update: dictation and in-progress Notetaker recordings defer it, regardless of window focus or input.

  • Staged updates stay current: while an update waits for a restart, Wispr Flow keeps checking for newer releases and swaps in a newer build automatically, so restarting lands you on the most current version.

FAQs

What if I click "Restart now" during a Notetaker recording?

The restart is held until the recording finishes. Your meeting will not be cut off.

What if a newer version ships while I'm waiting to restart?

Restarting installs the newest available release, so you won't need a second update cycle. See How it works.

I'm managed by my IT team. Does this apply to me?

If your organization's MDM policy sets an update cadence other than automatic, updates apply on that schedule without deferral. Contact your IT administrator for your organization's policy.

Limitations and notes

  • This behavior is available on Mac and Windows.

  • Enterprise organizations do not have access to Notetaker, so Notetaker update deferral does not apply to them.
