How to setup Flow Styles

Last updated: September 4, 2026

Available on: Mac, Windows, iOS

Pick a tone for each kind of app — formal for email, casual for personal messages — and Flow formats your dictation to match. Setup takes about a minute on any platform.

Note: Flow Styles work best when your dictation language is English.

How to set up Flow Styles

Mac and Windows

  1. Open Wispr Flow and click Styles in the left sidebar.

  2. Click a category tab — Personal messages, Work messages, Email, or Other.

  3. Click the style card you want. Your selection saves immediately — there is no Save button or confirmation.

  4. Verify by dictating a short phrase in any app in that category. If the text matches the style you selected, setup is complete.

Note: Until you finish personalization onboarding, a "Make Flow sound like you" banner replaces the style cards below the category tabs.

iOS

  1. Open Wispr Flow and go to the Style tab.

  2. Pick a category — Personal, Work, Email, or Other.

  3. Tap the style card you want to open the selection sheet, then tap Save.

Note: While personalization is incomplete, an intro card appears. Dismissing it with the X marks personalization complete without selecting styles.

FAQs

My dictated text doesn't look different after I change the style

Styles apply only to new dictations. Test with a fresh dictation in the app category where you changed the style.

I want to use Very Casual for email, but I don't see it

Very Casual is available for Personal messages only. For Email, use Formal, Casual, or Excited!.

I don't see the Styles option in my app

On Mac and Windows, look in the left sidebar; on iOS, use the Style tab. Styles are not yet available on Android.

What is the "Make Flow sound like you" card?

It's an invitation to personalize your writing style, shown on Mac and Windows on the Styles page and the Home page until personalization is complete. Its button opens a guided wizard: Intro → Personal messages → Work messages → Email → Other → Final.

How does Flow know which style to apply?

Flow detects the category of the app you're dictating in — including web versions, detected by URL — and applies your style for that category. You can assign more apps yourself. Default assignments:

  • Personal messages: WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Instagram.

  • Work: Slack, Microsoft Teams, LinkedIn.

  • Email: Gmail, Superhuman, Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail.

  • Other: everything else (e.g. Linear, ChatGPT, Apple Notes).

Limitations and notes

  • Styles are optimized for English. The iOS UI states styles apply in English only, though style preferences are sent for all languages.

  • Style preferences take effect only after you complete the initial style setup.
