What is Wispr Flow?
Last updated: September 19, 2026
Available on: Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Controls and features differ by platform. An internet connection is required for transcription.
Wispr Flow turns your speech into written text in the app where you are working. Start dictation, speak naturally, then stop: Flow transcribes your words, cleans up the result and inserts it into the selected text field.
Use it to draft emails, messages and documents, capture quick notes, or dictate names and technical terms without typing everything by hand. The video below shows Flow in action.
How dictation works
Choose where to write. Open a message, document or note and place your cursor in the text field.
Start Flow. Use your desktop shortcut, the Flow keyboard on iPhone, or the floating Flow Bubble on Android.
Speak naturally. Say what you want to write. Flow can clean up filler words, punctuation and spoken self-corrections.
Stop and review. Flow inserts the finished text. Read it before sending or sharing.
For example, say “Hey team, the design review is moved to 3pm tomorrow.” Flow types the message into your selected field. Desktop dictation inserts the completed text after you stop, rather than displaying a live word-by-word transcript as you speak.
Flow supports more than 100 dictation languages. Choose the languages you use in your platform's settings; see Use Flow with multiple languages. For names and recurring terms, add words to your dictionary.
Use Flow on your devices
| Platform | How to start | Useful controls |
|---|---|---|
| Mac and Windows | Hold your dictation shortcut, speak, then release to insert text. Defaults are Fn on Mac and Ctrl + Win on Windows; shortcuts are customizable. | Use hands-free dictation when you do not want to hold the keys. The Hub contains history, Dictionary, Snippets, Style and Settings. |
| iPhone | Switch to the Flow keyboard in another app and tap its microphone. | Flow Notes capture separate notes in the app. Widgets, Control Center and Siri shortcuts provide quick entry points. |
| Android | Focus a text field with the on-screen keyboard open. Tap the Flow Bubble for hands-free dictation, or hold it and release when finished. | Move or resize the bubble, or snooze it temporarily. If insertion fails, use the offered paste action. |
On a Mac without Apple's Fn key, setup uses Ctrl + Option instead. Check your actual binding in Settings. For a guided first attempt on any platform, see Starting your first dictation.
Get started
Download Flow from Wispr's downloads page or your phone's app store. Check supported devices and system requirements before installing.
Create an account or sign in. Use Google, Apple, Microsoft, your organization's SSO, or email/password. If you already have an account, use its original sign-in method.
Finish setup. Follow Flow's prompts for microphone, keyboard or accessibility permissions. See first-dictation setup for detailed instructions.
Try a short sentence in a familiar app, then check the result.
If your organization requires SSO, use that method. If it manages accounts through directory sync, ask your IT administrator for access instead of creating another account.
What to know before using Flow
Connection: voice transcription needs internet access. Retry saved audio when Flow offers that option after a failure.
App compatibility: Android's bubble is intentionally hidden in password and other sensitive fields, including many banking apps. Some apps may require manual pasting.
Plans: allowances, trials and paid features depend on your account. Check Flow plans and what's included for current options.
History and privacy: local dictation history is separate from cloud-storage and model-improvement settings. Review data-sharing and cloud-storage preferences to choose the controls you need.
