Android Download & Installation Guide
Last updated: April 30, 2026
Available on: Android (Early Access)
Get Wispr Flow running on your Android phone in under 5 minutes. This guide walks you through downloading from the Play Store, granting permissions, and completing setup so you can start dictating right away.
How to install Wispr Flow
Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
Search for "Wispr Flow" in the search bar.
Tap the Wispr Flow app from the search results. Look for the Wispr logo and "Wispr Inc" as the developer.
Tap Install and wait for the download to complete.
Open Wispr Flow from the Play Store, or tap the Wispr Flow icon on your home screen.
Note: If you tap a Wispr Flow link (such as a Dictionary link) and have the app installed, it opens directly to the right place. If not, install the app from the Play Store first.
How to complete setup
Review the three introductory screens explaining what Wispr Flow does, how the Flow Bubble works, and how dictation works. Tap Next, then Give it a try! to proceed.
Sign in using Google, Apple, Microsoft, or email/password. Use the same sign-in method you used on other devices if you already have an account.
Follow the onboarding flow, which includes language setup and two dictation tutorials: a tap-to-dictate exercise and a press-and-hold (Push-to-Talk) exercise.
Grant the overlay permission when prompted. Tap Open Settings, enable "Display over other apps" for Wispr Flow, then return to the app.
Grant the accessibility permission when prompted. Review the explanation screens and tap Agree. Where you find Wispr Flow in accessibility settings depends on your device:
Samsung
Look under Installed apps.
Pixel, OnePlus, RealMe, Oppo, Lenovo
Look under Downloaded apps.
Vivo, Motorola
Look for Wispr Flow directly in the list.
Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO
Tap OK when prompted to confirm the permission.
Warning: Only enable the main Wispr Flow accessibility service. Do not turn on the shortcut — this causes an error.
Configure privacy preferences when the "Your data is safe" screen appears. Choose your preferred option, then tap Next.
Grant the battery optimization exemption when prompted so Wispr Flow can run in the background. Follow the manufacturer-specific instructions shown during this step. On Realme, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, OnePlus, Transsion, and Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO devices, after tapping Allow, Wispr Flow guides you to the right battery settings screen and returns you to setup automatically.
Note: On Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices, this step has two parts: first enable autostart in Background autostart settings, then grant No restrictions in Battery saver settings. Wispr Flow opens the second screen for you once you complete the first — just follow the prompts.
Allow or skip notifications when the "Don't speak into the void" screen appears.
Tap Finish on the completion screen. The Flow Bubble appears when you tap into a text field in any app.
Note: Some onboarding steps sync across your devices. If you've already set language preference, attribution, privacy consent, or personalization styles on another device, those steps are skipped automatically. Device-specific steps — such as granting permissions — still appear every time.
Navigating the app
After setup, you land on the Dashboard. The bottom navigation bar has four tabs:
Home: Your dictation transcript history, grouped by date. Each transcript can be copied, reported, retried, or deleted. Also shows dictation stats and permission banners if any required permissions are missing.
Dictionary: Manage custom words to improve transcription accuracy.
Style: Personalize how Wispr Flow formats your dictations. Choose from five writing styles (Formal, Casual, Very Casual, Excited, or Default) across four contexts: Personal messaging, Work messaging, Email, and Other apps.
Snippets: Create and manage text expansion shortcuts to quickly insert phrases you type often.
Tap the menu icon in the top corner to open the side navigation drawer, where you can find Report an issue, Share feedback, Settings, and Account.
Tip: You can resize the Flow Bubble in Settings → Flow Bubble Size (four sizes available). If the bubble is in the way, drag it to the bottom of the screen to snooze it for 10 minutes.
Warning: Signing out deletes all transcripts stored on your device. You'll see a confirmation dialog before this happens.
Common issues
Onboarding buttons floating mid-screen on foldable or landscape devices
On foldable devices or in landscape orientation, the Next button and other action buttons during onboarding could appear in the middle of the screen rather than anchored to the bottom. Onboarding content also sometimes failed to scroll when it didn't fit on screen. This was fixed in version 1.8.4. Update Wispr Flow from the Play Store to get the fix.
Per-app writing style not applying correctly
The per-category writing style (Personal, Work, Email, Other) could be ignored when dictating, and style changes might not take effect immediately after switching. This was fixed in a recent update — Flow now correctly detects which app you're dictating into (including WhatsApp, Slack, Gmail, Teams, Outlook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and their web versions) and applies the matching style right away. Update Wispr Flow from the Play Store to get the fix.
Writing style changes not saving
Style edits could fail to save reliably — switching styles rapidly could apply the wrong style, and selections could revert after restarting the app. This was fixed in version 1.7.5. Update Wispr Flow from the Play Store to get the fix.
Wispr Flow stopping after a few minutes on Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices
On Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices, Wispr Flow could be shut down by the system after a few minutes because the battery optimization setup required two steps — enabling autostart and granting "No restrictions" in Battery saver settings — and the second step was easy to miss. Wispr Flow now automatically opens the Battery saver screen after you complete the autostart step, so both permissions are granted during setup. Update Wispr Flow from the Play Store to get the fix.
Background shutdown on Samsung, Xiaomi, and similar phones
Aggressive battery management could shut down Wispr Flow while running in the background. This was fixed in version 1.6.2. Update Wispr Flow from the Play Store to get the fix.
If the issue persists after updating, go to Settings → Apps → Wispr Flow → Battery and select Unrestricted.
Hearing aid microphone not handled correctly on Android 16
Switching to a hearing aid microphone during dictation was not handled correctly on Android 16. This was fixed in version 1.6.2. Update Wispr Flow from the Play Store to get the fix.
Bugs fixed in recent updates
The following issues have been fixed across recent versions. Update Wispr Flow from the Play Store to get all of these fixes:
Play Store review sheet not appearing (1.8.0): Tapping Rate us 5 stars could appear to do nothing. The rating sheet now appears reliably.
App crashes on Android 13 and later: The app could crash on devices running Android 13 or newer.
Feedback dialog issues: Tapping the feedback notification more than once would not re-open the dialog, and the dialog could get stuck on a loading spinner if submission failed. The dialog now opens reliably and shows an error you can dismiss or retry.
Crash on the "Which newsletter?" onboarding screen: The attribution screen could crash during onboarding.
Background service stops after a crash (1.6.2): Wispr Flow now automatically restarts its background service if stopped by a crash or system memory pressure. Any in-progress dictation at the time of the crash is not continued.
Flow Bubble disappearing after switching apps (1.6.2): The bubble could fail to reappear when navigating back to a text field after switching to another app.
Intermittent text insertion failures (1.6.2): Dictated text was not always reliably inserted into the active text field.
App stability and unexpected crashes (1.6.1): Stability issues that could cause the app to crash or behave unexpectedly were fixed.
Microphone staying on after stopping dictation (1.6.0): The microphone could remain active after the dictation bubble was hidden. The microphone now turns off reliably when you stop dictating.
Crash when updating list content (1.6.0): The app could crash when list content (such as Dictionary or Snippets) was updated from multiple sources at the same time.
Crashes on Android 16 (1.6.0): Compatibility issues with the Android 16 accessibility framework could trigger errors during dictation.
Crashes when navigating or following a link (1.6.0): The app could crash when tapping a deep link, signing in, signing out, or switching between screens quickly.
Required update screen skipped after signing in via a link (1.6.0): The screen now always appears when an update is required.
Text inserted multiple times in Google Docs or Gmail (1.5.2): Dictated text could be inserted more than once in apps that are slow to respond.
Accessibility service stops without restarting (1.5.2): The accessibility service now restarts automatically if it crashes or is stopped by the system.
Flow Bubble not appearing while the keyboard is opening (1.5.2): The bubble now appears sooner when a keyboard starts to open.
Flow Bubble stuck after dismissing the keyboard (1.5.2): The bubble could get stuck and stop responding after the keyboard was dismissed.
Duplicate entries in Dictionary, Snippets, and language selector (1.5.2): Items could appear multiple times in these lists, which could also cause crashes.
Snippets and Dictionary entries mixed up (1.5.2): Entries could get crossed with each other during sync.
Dictated text not inserted correctly in Gmail on Samsung (1.5.0): Text insertion now works correctly in apps that use web-based text fields.
App slow to start or unresponsive after rebooting (1.5.0): Startup was improved to prevent the app from becoming unresponsive when the phone restarts.
Crashes during onboarding (1.4.1 and 1.2.1): A crash during onboarding was fixed in 1.4.1. An earlier crash on setup screens with scrollable content was fixed in 1.2.1.
FAQs
I can't find Wispr Flow in the Play Store
Wispr Flow may have limited availability depending on your region or device. Make sure you're signed into the Play Store with the same Google account you used to join the waitlist. If you still can't find it, contact support.
Which sign-in method should I use?
Use the same sign-in method (Google, Apple, or Microsoft) you used when creating your Wispr Flow account on other devices. You cannot switch between login methods once your account is created. Enterprise users can also sign in with SSO by entering their work email address.
What does the "Early Access" badge mean?
The Early Access badge indicates that Wispr Flow on Android is in early access — the app is fully functional, but new features and improvements are actively being rolled out.
Why doesn't the Flow Bubble appear right after finishing setup?
The Flow Bubble appears when you tap into an active text field in any app — it does not show on the Dashboard.
Can I change my language preferences after setup?
Yes. Tap the menu icon on the Dashboard to open the side drawer, then go to Settings → Languages. Tap Add more to enter edit mode and select additional languages, then tap Done to save.
Why were some setup steps skipped on this device?
If you've already set up Wispr Flow on another device, your answers about language preference, attribution, privacy consent, and personalization styles carry over automatically. Device-specific steps like granting permissions still appear. If you tapped Set up later for personalization styles on a previous device, you'll be prompted to complete that step here.
What if I tap "Not now" on the accessibility permission?
Tapping Not now takes you back to the previous screen. You can grant the accessibility permission later through your device settings, but Wispr Flow requires it to insert dictated text into apps.
The Flow Bubble doesn't respond when I tap it
Close and reopen the app. Make sure the accessibility service is still enabled in your device's accessibility settings. If the issue persists, contact support.
Why doesn't the Flow Bubble appear in my banking app?
Wispr Flow automatically hides the Flow Bubble in banking and financial apps for security. This is by design and cannot be overridden.
Is there a time limit on dictation sessions?
Yes — each dictation session can last up to 5 minutes. You'll see a warning at 4 minutes. When the limit is reached, the session ends automatically and you can start a new one.
What is the review card on my Home screen?
After 500+ words dictated across at least 3 successful dictations, Wispr Flow may ask you to rate the app. The card will not appear on days when a dictation has failed. Tap Rate us 5 stars to open the Play Store review, or Leave Feedback to submit feedback in-app. Tap the X or anywhere outside the card to dismiss it permanently.
I saw a popup asking me to rate Wispr Flow — is it legitimate?
Yes. Wispr Flow may show a Google in-app review prompt titled "Enjoying Flow?" asking you to rate the app. This dialog comes directly from Google and lets you leave a rating without leaving the app. It is safe to interact with.
