Plans, upgrades and word limits on Android

Last updated: October 20, 2026

Available on: Android

Seeing “No words remaining,” Free after upgrading, or a subscription you want to cancel? Check your allowance, then use Plans to upgrade or manage your subscription with the store that bills you.

Check your plan

  1. Open Flow’s navigation drawer using the menu button.

  2. Tap your profile card or Account under General.

  3. Tap Manage plan to open Plans.

Manage plan appears for Free and paid plans, including after a loading error; it is hidden while loading or signed out. Back from Account returns to the open drawer.

Plans checks for changes when opened or revisited, so no restart is needed, but changes made elsewhere can take a few minutes to appear.

Plan details and other entry points

Plans shows Current plan and at most one upgrade card: Pro for Free accounts, or Enterprise for Growth accounts. Contact sales on Enterprise opens a web page.

Account labels include “Flow Pro” and “Flow Student”; drawer labels are Pro, Pro Trial, Student, Growth or Enterprise. Free has no label in either location. The Student card in Plans is priced “Free.” Growth and Enterprise show “Need support? Contact us”; other plans show “Looking for a growth or enterprise plan? Go to our website”.

If no plan has loaded, a failure shows Error in Account and No plan info in the drawer. A temporary error does not replace an already-loaded plan.

Eligible Free accounts can also open Plans through Settings → GENERAL → Upgrade to Pro, the drawer’s Get unlimited words, or a Home upgrade card. At the limit, the drawer adds Upgrade now. These entry points open Plans, not checkout.

While the plan loads, Settings and the drawer show placeholders rather than upgrade actions. After a loading failure, upgrade entries remain available unless you already have active paid access.

Weekly word limits

Free includes weekly mobile dictation shared between Android and iOS, plus a separate desktop allowance; Pro has unlimited dictated words on any device. Each dictation counts once from its final text, so retries are not counted again.

Free accounts show the shared count under Your free usage this week, below the drawer profile. Usage includes newly dictated words before other totals update and does not decrease within the week.

The defaults below apply before account-specific allowances are available. Warnings begin 200 words below the soft limit. Allowances can differ by account and change without an app update; check your drawer’s current numbers. A decrease takes effect at the next reset unless usage is below the new warning threshold, when it applies immediately.

Stage and default words used

Message

What happens

Warning: 800 words

“You're approaching your weekly free limit”

“Flow will slow down once you reach your limit.”

Soft limit: 1,000 words

“You have reached your weekly limit.”

“Flow will slow down until next week.”

Hard cap: 1,500 words

“No words remaining”

Every press is blocked until the weekly reset or an upgrade.

Limit notices appear only when you press the bubble to start, never during or after dictation. Warning and soft-limit notices each stop one start attempt per reset week; the next press dictates.

Everyone’s allowance resets at Sunday 23:45 UTC—Sunday or Monday locally, not local midnight or seven days after first use. Usage returns to zero; while Flow is running, limit messages clear immediately, even offline. Warning and soft-limit notices and dismissed cards become eligible to appear again in the new week.

Where limit notices appear

Flow sends a notification first; if notifications or Word limit alerts are off, a sheet appears over your current app. Home shows a card from the warning stage. Each offers Get unlimited words to open Plans; notification taps and the sheet’s action can also open checkout automatically once per visit.

On Home, X dismisses warning and soft-limit cards until reset; the hard-cap card cannot be dismissed. Sheets have a close button except at the warning stage. Outdated notifications and sheets clear automatically, including after upgrades; sheets also close when dictation starts.

Toggle Word limit alerts (“Weekly word limit and subscription updates”) in Android Settings → Notifications → Wispr Flow.

Missing usage and restarts

Unknown plan or current-week usage means no limit message or word-limit block; previous-week usage also cannot block you. Restarting does not reset this week’s cap, which applies again after signing back into the same account.

Loading usage shows a placeholder, not zero. If plan information fails to load, the drawer shows an empty usage bar without Upgrade now; screen readers announce “Word usage unavailable”.

Upgrade to Pro

Note: Sign in to the Flow account you want to upgrade or restore. Checkout requires sign-in; a purchase does not unlock another account. Signing out clears subscription access in the app and closes checkout.

  1. Tap Explore plan on the Pro upgrade card in Plans—not the card itself.

  2. Choose monthly or annual Pro.

  3. Confirm the purchase in the Google Play payment sheet.

  4. Check for Flow Pro in Account or Pro in the drawer.

Google Play confirmation unlocks Pro immediately, even while other plan details update. Active paid access removes weekly limits, Free usage displays and upgrade prompts.

Pro bought on iOS or granted elsewhere works on Android with the same Flow account. Student plans from other platforms are honored, but never sold through Google Play.

Leave checkout without buying using its close control or Back. If an organization invite or desktop upgrade makes your account paid while checkout is open, it closes to prevent a duplicate purchase.

Tip: If a word limit still blocks you after upgrading, press the bubble again. For web or desktop upgrades, a blocked press re-checks your plan at most once every 30 seconds; faster repeats do not trigger another check. Once the update arrives, press again to dictate.

Flow also checks for plan changes when you return to the app or finish dictating.

If checkout does not open

Explore plan is disabled while prices load, pricing is unavailable, or Flow checks your plan.

  • “Pricing unavailable”: Tap Try again; Explore plan enables only after prices load successfully for an eligible Free account.

  • “Your plan is up to date.”: You already have paid access, so checkout does not open.

  • “Couldn't verify your plan. Try again.”: The check failed or took too long; tap Explore plan again when it re-enables.

  • “Couldn't load plans. Please try again.”: Checkout closes; tap Explore plan again to reopen it and retry.

Plans and checkout block taps beneath another app’s overlay: “Another app is showing over Wispr Flow, so taps here are blocked. Pause screen dimmers or other overlays and try again.”

If Pro still shows Free

Restoring unlocks Pro only if an active Pro subscription is found.

  1. Return to Plans; if your paid plan appears, stop here.

  2. Tap Explore plan if you still see Free.

  3. Use the restore control inside the purchase sheet.

The sheet stays open through the restore: a “Purchases restored” confirmation appears and Pro unlocks there. If no subscription is found or the restore fails, the sheet stays open so you can try again or close it.

Cancel or resubscribe

Only Google Play-billed subscriptions can be managed through Google Play.

Note: If an organization or desktop plan coexists with an active Play subscription, use Manage your Google Play subscription under the plan card to find and cancel that separate charge.

  1. Tap Cancel plan for a renewing subscription or Resubscribe on Google Play for a cancelled subscription in Plans.

  2. Complete the cancellation or resubscription in Google Play.

  3. Return to Plans to check the updated subscription.

After Google Play opens successfully, returning to Plans triggers repeated checks for your change. If Cancel, Resubscribe or the management link shows “Couldn't open Google Play. Try again.”, Google Play did not open; retry that action.

Dates and access after cancellation

Date labels distinguish trials, renewal and the end of access:

  • Trials: “Trial ends on” takes precedence, including after cancelling a Play trial.

  • Cancelled Play plans outside a trial: “Expires on” marks the date Pro access ends.

  • Renewing Play plans: “Billed monthly on” or “Billed annually on” appears when pricing for that cadence has loaded; otherwise, “Renews on” appears.

  • Desktop, App Store, other-store or promotional plans outside a trial: When a date is available, “Ends on” means cancelled or inactive; otherwise, “Renews on” appears.

When your account returns to Free after expiry, the paid label disappears and usage and upgrade options return.

Subscriptions billed elsewhere

For non-Play subscriptions, Plans shows instructions rather than opening the billing service:

Go to the desktop app to manage plan

App Store

Manage your plan in the App Store on your iPhone or iPad

Other or unknown store (including a Mac App Store purchase)

No billing action is shown.

Still stuck?

Contact support with your Android device, the plan shown in Account, what you saw and what you tried if:

  • Flow and Google Play still show different plans after you revisit Plans or restore.

  • Account keeps showing Error instead of your plan.

  • Dictation remains blocked after upgrading and following the retry steps above.

  • Your usage looks wrong for the dictations you made.
