Adapting to iOS 26.4

Available on: iOS

If tapping Start Flow now drops you on a screen that says "Flow is on" and asks you to swipe back to your app, or your writing style no longer changes between apps — that's related to iOS 26.4. Here's what changed and how to use the new style controls.

What changed

  • Manual swipe back to your app: Tapping Start Flow used to briefly open the Flow app and return you automatically. On some iOS 26.4 builds, you swipe back manually instead.

  • Styles no longer auto-adjust by app (for some users): In the new Styles Adaptation experience — a gradual rollout — Flow uses a single default style everywhere. Users outside the rollout still have Flow auto-select a category (Personal, Work, Email, or Other) based on the active app.

What we shipped to help

  • Redesigned swipe-back screen: A Flow is on message with a "You can start dictating now" subtitle, the instruction "Swipe right across the bottom edge to continue," and an animated guide along the bottom showing the gesture. Animations respect your device's Reduce Motion setting.

  • Default style settings in the app: The Style tab sets a default style per category (Personal, Work, Email, Other) so formatting stays consistent across apps. A simplified single-default-style view ("Your default sound") is rolling out gradually and replaces the category picker when you have it.

  • Quick Style Switcher on the keyboard: A style pill above the keyboard opens a menu to temporarily switch your style for the current conversation without leaving your app. The override stays active until you change or clear it.

  • Keyboard touch accuracy improvements: Taps in the gaps between keys register the nearest key, the shift/Z and M/delete boundaries are split more evenly, and dragging from one key to another inserts only the new key's character.

Setting your default style

  1. Open the Wispr Flow app and tap the Style tab.

  2. Set a style for each category:

    1. Personal: Formal., Casual, or very casual.

    2. Work, Email, and Other: Formal., Casual, or Excited!

Note: With the simplified "Your default sound" view, the Style tab home shows a single style card for your current default — tap it to pick Formal., Casual, very casual, or Excited!

Using the Quick Style Switcher

  1. Find the style pill on the right side of the keyboard's top bar inside another app. It shows your active writing style and never appears alongside the Start Flow button — the two are mutually exclusive.

  2. Tap the style pill to open a menu. A checkmark marks the active style.

  3. Tap the style you want for this conversation; it applies immediately. Options depend on the active category: Personal offers Formal., Casual, or very casual; Work, Email, and Other offer Formal., Casual, or Excited! In the simplified "Your default sound" rollout, the menu lists all four styles (Formal., Casual, very casual, Excited!) regardless of category.

Important: While dictation is in progress, the style pill is dimmed and cannot be tapped. Wait for transcription to finish before switching styles.

Note: With a word selected, an Add to Dictionary button replaces the style pill; after you add the word, a brief "Word Saved" confirmation appears before the pill returns. The pill is also hidden when an error or network message is showing, an "unlocked stats" notification is showing, setup isn't complete, or you have no default writing style set.

Common issues

Bugs fixed in recent updates

These iOS 26.4 issues are resolved. To get the fixes, update Wispr Flow to the latest version from the App Store.

  • Full Name field on the account creation screen used the email keyboard: The Full Name field opened the email keyboard (no auto-capitalization, wrong layout) instead of the standard text keyboard. It now uses the correct keyboard and automatically capitalizes each word — for example, typing "ramon honorio" appears as "Ramon Honorio".

  • Pressing return on the number/symbol keyboard didn't switch back to letters: When you entered the number or symbol layer from the QWERTY keyboard, pressing return stayed on that layer instead of switching back to letters and capitalizing the new line. The return key now behaves the same as Apple's keyboard — it returns to letters and applies auto-capitalization.

  • Caps lock dropped back to lowercase when pressing backspace: Double-tapping shift to enable caps lock could silently revert to lowercase or single-shift after pressing backspace, tapping space, or continuing to type. Caps lock now stays on until you tap shift again or switch away from the letter keyboard.

  • Style pill border lagged after switching styles: The pill's border could take a moment to resize to the new style name; it now updates instantly.

  • Flow returned to the wrong app after dictation: Swiping back after dictation could return you to the wrong app. Flow now returns you to the app you were typing in.

  • Keyboard appeared unresponsive after swiping back on first launch: When Flow wasn't already running, the keyboard could show the mic button with no waveform and ignore taps even though dictation had started. It now shows the waveform and responds to taps.

  • Flow's keyboard appeared stuck or reverted to the system keyboard: In some apps on iOS 26.4, the keyboard could crash and iOS fell back to the system keyboard. The keyboard now stays responsive across apps.

  • Start Flow didn't begin dictation after swiping back: When the app wasn't already running, tapping Start Flow and swiping back could fail to start dictation. This is fixed.

  • Taps near certain keys registered the wrong key: Taps in the gaps between keys — near shift/Z, M/delete, between rows, or on the numbers and symbols keyboards — could miss or hit the wrong key. A related issue where double-tapping shift for caps lock stopped gap taps from working is also resolved.

  • Dragging between keys inserted extra characters: The dragged-to key didn't highlight and sometimes both characters were inserted. Dragging now inserts only the new key's character.

FAQs

Why do I have to swipe back to my app after tapping Start Flow?

On some iOS 26.4 builds, Flow's automatic return isn't available. Swipe right across the bottom edge to return to your app, then start dictating.

Why is my writing style the same in every app now?

In the Styles Adaptation rollout, Flow uses a single default style everywhere. Set your preferred style in the Style tab, or switch on the fly with the Quick Style Switcher.

How long does the Quick Style Switcher override last, and does it change my saved styles?

It stays active until you select a different style or clear it, and it persists if you dismiss and reopen the keyboard. Your saved styles for Personal, Work, Email, and Other are unaffected.

Are Mac, Windows, and Android affected?

No — they work the same as before. The Quick Style Switcher is iOS-only; Mac and Windows have Writing Styles but no keyboard pill.

I don't see the style pill or the Style tab

The Style tab is a gradual rollout — update to the latest version from the App Store. The style pill also requires completed setup and a default writing style, and is hidden when text is selected or an error, network, or "unlocked stats" notification is showing.

Limitations and notes

  • Styles apply in English only (US English or British English; under auto-detect, GB, CA, AU, and NZ device regions map to British English).

  • The Quick Style Switcher, the Style tab, and the simplified single-default-style view are rolling out gradually and may not be available to you yet.

  • The redesigned swipe-back screen is also a gradual rollout; users outside it see the legacy screen.
