Android system requirements

Check these requirements before installing Wispr Flow on your Android device. Android 12 and earlier are not supported.

Minimum requirements

Requirement	What to check
Android version	Android 13 or later.
Internet	A working connection. Offline transcription is unavailable.
Storage	Approximately 500 MB available for installation, with free space for recordings. Recording stops if storage runs out.
Memory	6 GB RAM or more recommended. Devices with less memory may run more slowly or less reliably.
Microphone	A working microphone. Android selects the input; Flow has no in-app microphone picker.
Accelerometer	Required for the Google Play installation and shake gesture support.

Supported device types

Flow supports Android smartphones, including devices from Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO, TECNO, Infinix, and itel. Samsung One UI devices must be based on Android 13 or later.

Tablets and foldables may work but are not officially optimized. Chromebooks and Android Go devices are not officially supported. These compatibility boundaries follow the supported devices and system requirements guide.

On a work phone, your organization’s policies may prevent installation, accessibility services, or the required permissions. Contact your IT administrator if a setting is unavailable or locked.

Check your device

1. Open Android Settings → About phone or About tablet.

2. Look under Software information and confirm that the Android version is 13 or higher. Setting names vary by device.

3. Open Settings → Storage and check the available space.

4. Find Wispr Flow in Google Play. If it is unavailable for your device, contact support rather than assuming that meeting the Android version alone guarantees compatibility.

Permissions Flow needs

Setup requests microphone access, Display over other apps, and the main Wispr Flow Accessibility service. These let the bubble appear, record your voice, and insert dictated text. Android’s notification prompt lets Flow show its own status alerts; it does not grant access to read other apps’ notifications.

A battery optimization exemption is recommended to keep Flow running in the background, but you can skip it during setup. Manufacturer settings may still close Flow. Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO need both Autostart and No restrictions enabled. Follow Android permission and battery setup for your device’s exact steps.

Compatibility versus a temporary problem

If Flow is installed but the bubble is missing, first finish account onboarding and tap a text field to open the keyboard. The bubble is intentionally hidden in banking and financial apps and in password, numeric, and phone-number fields.

A missing permission, stopped accessibility service, snooze, or battery restriction can also hide or interrupt the bubble. Use Flow Bubble troubleshooting before treating this as an unsupported device.

If the connection drops during dictation, Flow may save the recording for retry in History. Fully offline, it cannot start a new dictation. If the app requires an update, install it from Google Play before continuing.
