Turn off or remove the Flow keyboard on iPhone

Available on: iOS 18.3 or later

Switch to another keyboard for a moment, stop Flow from transcribing, remove the keyboard, or remove Wispr Flow entirely. Full removal also involves your local data, your account and your subscription.

Switch back to the standard keyboard for now

This changes the keyboard in one app and keeps Flow everywhere else. Nothing is removed.

  1. Tap and hold the globe icon to open the iOS keyboard picker.

  2. Select your standard keyboard from the list.

A single globe tap advances to the next installed keyboard, which is not necessarily Apple's.

Note: On Face ID iPhones, iOS supplies the globe; Flow shows its own globe on iPhone SE (2nd/3rd generation) and iPad across all keyboard layers. With Show full QWERTY keyboard on, abc returns from numbers/symbols to Flow's letters, so use the globe to leave Flow. With QWERTY off or unavailable, abc advances to the next keyboard.

Turn off transcription but keep the keyboard installed

Turning off Full Access keeps the Flow keyboard in your list but stops it from transcribing.

  1. Open iPhone Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards.

  2. Tap Wispr Flow.

  3. Turn off Allow Full Access.

The keyboard still appears. Tapping the mic or Start Flow now shows Almost there!, "To use Flow → allow Full Access in your Keyboard Settings" and Finish setup; the home/History screen shows a Full Access prompt, and the keyboard's gear and voice-edit buttons show the permission prompt instead of their usual controls. If microphone permission is also missing, its "To use Flow, turn on Microphone in Settings" prompt appears first, with Go to Settings.

Restore dictation

Settings buttons in the keyboard may open iOS Settings directly or route through Flow depending on your iOS version; navigate to Keyboards manually if needed.

  1. Turn on Allow Full Access in the same location.

  2. Return to Flow; the Full Access warning clears immediately, without restarting or reinstalling.

Remove the Flow keyboard

  1. Open iPhone Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards.

  2. Swipe left on Wispr Flow.

  3. Tap Delete.

The Wispr Flow app stays on your iPhone, and your transcripts and dictionary are not deleted. Browsing or deleting history does not require the keyboard or Full Access.

Re-add the keyboard anytime from Add New Keyboard, then grant Allow Full Access again.

Remove Wispr Flow completely

Deleting the app alone leaves session and shared data behind, because the app and the keyboard share it. Sign out first, then remove each Flow surface.

Warning: Back up anything important before signing out. The alert says "Sign out and delete transcripts?" and "Signing out will remove all transcripts stored on this device." Signing out also clears local dictionaries, notes, logs and settings on this device.

Delete account on the same Account screen is separate and permanent — its confirmation says "Are you sure you want to delete your account?" and "This action is permanent." It deletes your account and signs out all devices.

Important: Deleting the app does not cancel a paid subscription. For App Store purchases, open iPhone Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions, select Flow, then tap Cancel Subscription. Manage desktop or web purchases in Flow's Settings → Plans and Billing.

  1. Open the Wispr Flow app's Account screen.

  2. Tap Sign out, then confirm the alert.

  3. Remove the keyboard using the steps above.

  4. Remove Flow widgets, including the Lock Screen widget.

  5. Remove both Control Center controls: the Flow dictation toggle and Flow Notes.

  6. Remove custom Siri Shortcuts you added.

  7. Delete the Wispr Flow app.

Shortcuts provided by the app disappear with it. If you leave a fully set-up keyboard installed after signing out, its keys are replaced with You're logged out, and Log in opens Flow.

FAQs

Why does the standard keyboard appear automatically?

Flow advances to the next installed keyboard for number pads (including ASCII-capable pads), phone, decimal, email-address and numbers-and-punctuation fields — but not for URL, search or password fields.

Does removing the keyboard on my iPhone affect my Mac or Windows setup?

No. Keyboard setup is per device, so your desktop dictation is unaffected.

Can I stop Flow listening in the background instead of removing it?

Yes. In Flow's Settings → General → Disable Flow after, choose Never, 1 hour, 15 min, 5 min or Immediately; the default is 5 min. This applies only while Flow is in the background and its keyboard is inactive, and it never interrupts dictation.
