Change the Wispr Flow app interface language

Want French menus while you dictate in English, or an interface that doesn't match your system locale? Change the Flow interface language in Settings in under a minute. Your dictation languages stay exactly as they are.

How to change the app language

Choose the option that matches where you are in Flow.

From General Settings (after setup)

Use this if you've already finished onboarding.

  1. Click the Flow icon in your menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows).

  2. Open Settings and select the General tab.

  3. Find the App Language row and click the dropdown.

  4. Type in the search field to filter the list, or scroll to your language.

  5. Select your language. Menu labels and settings text switch immediately — if they do, you're done.

Tip: To go back to matching your operating system's locale, select System Default from the same dropdown.

During onboarding

Use this if you're still setting Flow up for the first time.

  1. Find the language picker in the top-right corner of the onboarding progress bar.

  2. Click the picker and select your preferred interface language.

  3. Continue through onboarding. Every screen from this point appears in your chosen language.

Note: App Language changes the Flow interface only. To change what languages Flow listens for when you speak, go to Settings → General → Dictation Languages.

What's translated

Selecting an app language updates these surfaces:

  • Settings: General, Data & Privacy, System, Account, Plans & Billing, and Team management tabs.

  • Insights tab: Usage tiles, Leaderboard, Voice Profile, and Share Modal.

  • Notifications and pickers: Audio Quality notification, Trial Extension Tracker, and the language, auto-polish, and link pickers.

  • Team dialogs: Invite User, Contact Team Admin, and trial-related prompts.

  • Scratchpad and notes editor: In-editor text, search, tabs, notes, transform bar, version history, and note management actions.

  • Billing and trial flows: Trial opt-in, upgrade prompts, billing dialogs, and the trial extension challenge card.

  • Contact support dialog: All fields and labels in the in-app support form.

  • Meeting summary and recorder controls: Transcript toggle, meeting drawer, and Ask Anything controls.

  • Notetaker coaching checklist: The starter checklist shown in My notes for new Notetaker users (beta), with English as the fallback when a translation isn't available yet.

  • Dictionary modal: Custom dictionary management interface and bulk import modal.

  • Polish and transforms: Auto-polish mode labels, Custom Prompt, Prompt Engineer configuration, text transformation options, and bulk snippets import.

  • Flow Bar: Status indicators and context menu, including the meeting-recording pill's labels and tooltips (beta).

  • Stats dialog: Streaks, words-per-minute taglines, and app usage breakdown.

  • HIPAA BAA signing dialog: All labels and fields in the Business Associate Agreement flow.

  • Mobile app download dialog: Prompts and labels for downloading the mobile app.

  • Help menu and referral flows: Help menu items and referral program screens.

  • Snippets page banner: Example trigger words and expansion previews.

  • General interface: Menus, onboarding screens, and other in-app text.

Supported app languages

The Flow interface is available in 22 languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

Note: A language in this list means the interface is translated into it — not that Flow transcribes speech in it. Dictation language support is managed separately.

FAQs

Does changing the app language affect my dictation languages?

No. App Language controls the Flow interface, and Dictation Languages controls what Flow recognizes when you speak. Changing one has no effect on the other.

What is "System Default"?

System Default tells Flow to match your operating system's locale. If your OS is set to Spanish, the Flow interface displays in Spanish. If your OS locale isn't supported, Flow displays in English.

I can't find the Languages row in Settings

The Languages row in General Settings is now called Dictation Languages, so it isn't confused with the App Language setting directly above it.

My language isn't in the list — can I request it?

Yes. Contact the Wispr Flow support team with the language you'd like to see added.

Why is my Notetaker checklist in English when my app language is set to something else?

The starter checklist for new Notetaker users (beta) was recently updated with new tips, and those tips appear in English while translations are added. The rest of your interface stays in your selected language.

Limitations and notes

  • This setting is available on Mac and Windows.

  • It applies to the Flow interface only. It does not affect transcription, dictation language detection, or any content you dictate.

  • Default snippets created on first sign-in and role-based vocabulary packs follow your dictation language, not your app language.

  • Some assistive labels used by screen readers remain in English. Full screen reader localization is coming in a future update.

  • The transcript search bar in the Notetaker meeting drawer (beta) is English-only for now. Translation is coming in a future update.
