Connect an MCP client to Wispr Flow (remote MCP server)

Ask Claude or Cursor about last week's meeting without pasting the transcript. Connecting Wispr Flow's MCP server gives those tools access to your meeting notes, tasks, and calendar. Setup takes about a minute.

What it is

The Wispr Flow MCP server gives MCP-compatible clients secure, authenticated access to your Notetaker data: meeting summaries and transcripts, scratchpad notes, tasks, and calendar events. It does not have access to your dictations.

You connect by adding a URL to your client and signing in with your Wispr Flow account. Flow does not need to be running locally, and there is nothing to install — this replaces the previous local install method.

When to use it

Connect Wispr Flow's MCP server when you want to:

  • Ask an AI assistant about a past meeting without pasting in the transcript

  • Have Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client search or create scratchpad notes and tasks on your behalf

  • Pull your calendar events into a tool that supports MCP

How it works in Flow

Key behaviors

  • URL-based connection: Add the Wispr Flow MCP URL to your client's MCP server settings — no key or token to paste.

  • Browser sign-in: Authorization happens in your browser with your Wispr Flow account.

  • Account-based data: Connected tools pull from your Wispr Flow account, not from files on your machine.

  • Deleted transcripts stay deleted: If a meeting transcript has been removed under a data retention policy, your client is told it is deleted and never receives its contents.

  • Scratchpad notes: Search, read, create, and update notes.

  • Tasks: Search, read, create, and update task status.

  • Calendar: Read calendar events.

How to connect

  1. Click the Flow icon in your Mac menu bar, then click Settings.

  2. Open the MCP tab and click Copy next to the Wispr Flow MCP URL.

  3. Add the copied URL in your MCP client as a new MCP server.

  4. Sign in with your Wispr Flow account in the browser window that opens to authorize the connection.

  5. Check that the connection shows as authorized in your client's MCP server list.

  6. Ask your client about a recent meeting. If it answers with details from that meeting, you're connected.

Note: Where you paste an MCP server URL differs by client. Check your client's documentation for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or Cursor.

Tip: The first time you copy a meeting as Markdown (from the menu on a meeting in your Hub or notepad), Wispr Flow shows a one-time "Try using our MCP" card with a Set up button that opens Settings → MCP.

FAQs

Do I need Wispr Flow running locally for MCP to work?

No. Once you've connected and signed in, your MCP client talks to your Wispr Flow account directly — Flow doesn't need to be open on your Mac.

Do I still need to install anything in Claude Desktop?

No. The previous local install and copy-config flow have been removed. Add the URL and sign in — that's the entire setup.

Which MCP clients are supported?

Any MCP-compatible client that lets you add a server by URL, including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and Cursor.

Where do I find the MCP settings page?

In Wispr Flow on Mac, go to Settings → MCP. If you don't see the tab, you haven't received the Notetaker beta yet.

Why did my MCP client say a transcript is deleted?

The transcript was removed under a data retention policy, so it's no longer available to any connected client. Retention settings will be configurable in a future update.

Limitations and notes

  • MCP settings are available on Mac only, as part of the Notetaker beta. The MCP tab appears automatically in Settings for anyone with Notetaker enabled.

  • The MCP server exposes only Notetaker data (meetings, notes, tasks, and calendar events). Your dictations are not accessible through MCP.

  • You must sign in through the browser to authorize each new MCP client connection.

  • Transcripts deleted under a data retention policy are not accessible through MCP.
