What to do if the app doesn't start up after signing in and clicking "Open Wispr Flow"

Last updated: September 19, 2026

Available on: Mac, Windows, iOS and Android.

If browser sign-in finishes but Flow does not open, first check whether the app is already running in the background. If Flow opens but rejects your credentials, use Login Issues instead.

Bring Flow to the front

  • Mac: click Flow's menu-bar icon. If it is absent, open Finder → Applications → Wispr Flow. Flow may not appear in the Dock or Command+Tab unless Show app in dock is enabled.

  • Windows: click Flow's system-tray icon. With Launch at login enabled, Flow can start silently without opening the main window.

  • iOS or Android: open Flow directly from the home screen or app drawer.

If desktop Flow is installed and running, keep it open, choose Sign in via browser again and complete a fresh attempt. Older email links or timed-out attempts may no longer work. A Sign-in link expired message requires starting sign-in again.

Unsupported MacOS VersionThe app requires macOS 12 or later. Check your macOS version.

Unsupported Windows ArchitectureThe installer requires x64 Windows.

Flow hit a snagChoose Restart Flow. If crashes continue, choose Contact us.

Mac and Windows: update, then reinstall if needed

Check for updates from Flow's menu-bar or tray menu. If Flow will not respond, fully quit it and its helpers. Restart your computer and test before reinstalling.

Before signing out, resetting or reinstalling, save any local content you need. Signing out clears desktop local history and caches; cloud-synced content can return after login, but local-only content may not. See reset and reinstall precautions.

Reinstall on Mac

  1. Quit Flow from its menu-bar menu.

  2. Move Wispr Flow from Applications to the Trash.

  3. Download the latest Mac installer from Wispr's downloads page.

  4. Drag the installed app into Applications and open it there.

  5. Select Sign in via browser and finish sign-in.

Reinstall on Windows

  1. Quit Flow from its system-tray menu.

  2. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10, and uninstall Wispr Flow.

  3. Download and run the latest Windows installer.

  4. Open Flow from Start and complete browser sign-in.

iOS and Android

Update Flow from the App Store or Google Play. On iOS, force-close it from the app switcher; on Android, use Settings → Apps → Wispr Flow → Force stop. Reopen it and sign in. Reinstall from the store only if startup still fails.

iOS stuck on the Wispr logo: a keyboard-to-app handoff can leave this screen stuck. Force-close and reopen Flow first; a reinstall is not normally needed for this case. If the app opens but some tabs are locked with Try Flow first, complete your first dictation in another app.

Android: finish the browser flow and tap Open Wispr Flow. An invalid callback can show Unable to open Wispr Flow. Please try signing in again with an inactive button; return to Flow and begin a fresh sign-in.

  • Waiting for a provider: complete its browser login before returning.

  • Couldn't open the sign-in page: check that a browser is installed and enabled.

  • Sign-in didn't finish / Finish signing in: retry. Google, Apple and Microsoft can offer Try again; restart other sign-in methods from the beginning.

When the app opens but something is missing

Android bubble absent: follow the Home screen's recovery card for a disabled bubble, snooze, overlay permission or background-running restriction. Use Flow Bubble troubleshooting; reinstalling does not substitute for granting the right permission.

Desktop notes briefly absent: local settings load before cloud sync starts. Wait for sync or restart Flow. A new device on a restricted account may need its organization settings to load first.

Restricted network: if Flow shows Your network isn't allowed, connect to an approved network or ask your administrator. Retry sign-in after changing networks.

If Flow still will not start, contact support@wisprflow.ai with your platform, OS and Flow version, exact screen or error, and steps tried.
