Install Wispr Flow on Android
Last updated: October 2, 2026
Available on: Android
Install Wispr Flow from Google Play, sign in, and enable the permissions that let the Flow Bubble record speech and insert text into other apps.
Download the app
Wispr Flow requires Android 13 or later. If the app does not appear or cannot be installed, check Android system requirements.
Open the Google Play Store and search for Wispr Flow.
Choose the listing with the Wispr logo and Wispr Inc as the developer.
Tap Install, then open Wispr Flow.
If an update is required
Update Required appears only when your installed version is below the required minimum; you cannot dismiss it or continue without updating. Tap Update Now to open Flow's Google Play listing and install the update.
Sign in to Flow
Note: Sign-in methods cannot be switched after account creation, so use your account's original method.
Tap Get started on the welcome screens to reach sign-up and sign-in.
Sign in with your email address and password.
Email sign-in and verification
Continue with Email sends verified email accounts to password sign-in and new or unverified accounts to sign-up. If Existing account names another provider, select Back to login and use that provider.
Open the verification email when requested.
Verify using its link, or enter the six-digit code on Enter your code and tap Verify.
Flow checks link verification and signs you in when verified; a code may still be requested afterward. Navigating away from the verification screen stops the check.
If the email is missing, check spam and trash, then use Resend verification email for links or Resend code for codes. Resends become available after 30 seconds, then 60 seconds between sends, with a maximum of three sends per code request; at the limit, check spam or go back and sign in again, and wait before requesting another code.
Verification timeout: after 10 minutes, check your email and try again.
Connection error: check your connection and retry.
Session expired: sign up again.
Choose languages and practice dictating
Tap Next on both introductions, then Give it a try! on the second How it works screen.
Select at least one language on Select your languages, then tap Next.
Languages use your saved selections or device language, with English as the fallback. Add more opens a searchable picker and Done finishes selection; Next stays disabled until a language is selected.
Practice both recording gestures
Tap the Flow Bubble to start recording and tap again to stop, or press and hold while speaking, then release to submit. Tap Allow when Android asks for the microphone; the request appears when you tap or hold the tutorial bubble, and granting it during tap practice starts recording automatically.
Note: Practice dictations are not saved to transcript history because they precede your privacy choice. The tutorial bubble is setup-only; the regular bubble stays hidden until setup is finished.
Tap the tutorial's text box and complete the tap-to-dictate practice.
Tap Continue after your text appears.
Tap Try it out to practice press-and-hold.
Tap outside the text box after the press-and-hold dictation appears.
Tap Next twice to pass the screen about where the Flow Bubble works.
If practice says Sorry, couldn't hear you. Tap again to speak!, retry the dictation.
If microphone access blocks practice
After repeated denials, the tutorial shows For Wispr Flow to work, Open Settings to enable mic. Restarting Flow does not reset those denials.
Tap Open Settings to open Wispr Flow's Android app settings.
Enable microphone access for Wispr Flow.
Return to the tutorial; Flow recognizes the permission and tap practice starts recording.
Enable display and accessibility permissions
Display over other apps
Tap Open Settings on Allow Wispr Flow to appear over other apps.
Enable display over other apps for Wispr Flow.
Flow returns to the foreground and advances once permission is granted.
Accessibility
Accessibility lets Flow insert dictations. Flow accesses on-screen text, field layout, limited text-box contents, and the app or site name or URL. You can disable this permission anytime in Settings.
Tap Open settings after the walkthrough's last instruction appears.
Read Accessibility Permissions Required, then tap Agree to open Android's Accessibility settings.
Find Wispr Flow using the table below.
Enable Wispr Flow's main switch, leaving the separate accessibility shortcut off.
Device | Where to find Wispr Flow in Accessibility settings |
Samsung | Installed apps. |
Vivo or Motorola | Directly in the list. |
Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO | Downloaded apps; tap OK to confirm when prompted. |
Other Android devices | Downloaded apps. |
Flow returns automatically and advances to privacy only when the main accessibility switch is on and the shortcut is off.
If accessibility setup will not continue
On Oops, something isn't right, Open settings opens Accessibility settings directly. Turn off the Wispr Flow accessibility shortcut, keeping the main switch on; the error clears when the shortcut is off.
If you chose Not now on the disclosure, reopen it with Open settings and choose Agree. Once accepted during setup, it is not shown again.
For detailed battery and permission paths, see Setup Wispr Flow on Android.
Choose privacy and finish setup
Privacy
Choose one option on Your data is safe: Improve the model for everyone allows collection of audio, transcripts and edits to evaluate, train and improve Wispr features and AI models (pre-selected for new users); Don't share data prevents your dictation data from being used for model training by Wispr or third parties.
Tap Next once your account's privacy settings have loaded.
Returning users see their saved choice. If your organization locks Privacy Mode, Don't share data is selected and sharing cannot be enabled.
Background activity and battery
Allow the battery optimization exemption to keep Flow ready in the background, or choose Skip. Without it, your phone may stop Flow even with accessibility enabled. Setup advances automatically once the exemption is recognized; if battery settings fail to open, try again or choose Skip.
Pixel, Samsung, Motorola/Lenovo and devices not listed below
These phones use an inline permission request.
Choose the battery step's permission option.
Allow the battery optimization exemption in Android's request.
Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO
Flow opens Autostart management first; Autostart alone does not complete the battery exemption.
Open the battery settings offered by Flow.
Enable Autostart for Wispr Flow.
Return to Flow; the per-app Battery details screen opens automatically.
Select No restrictions, not Battery saver (recommended).
If setup does not advance, reopen Flow; some of these phones recognize the exemption only after reopening.
Realme, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, OnePlus, Tecno, Infinix or itel
These phones use device-specific settings followed by a separate battery exemption.
Open the background settings offered by Flow.
Allow Flow in your phone's background settings.
Return to Flow to open Battery details automatically.
Grant Wispr Flow the battery optimization exemption.
Notifications and completion
Notifications alert you when accessibility disconnects or Flow stops responding. This step is skipped automatically if notification access is already granted.
Tap Allow notifications, or Skip to continue without them.
Answer the “where did you hear about us” question and any follow-up, if shown.
Tap Finish on You're all set! to complete setup.
Check your first dictation
An internet connection is required. The bubble appears when an eligible text field is active and the keyboard is open, not immediately after setup.
Open an app such as Notes or Messages.
Tap an editable text field to open the keyboard and reveal the Flow Bubble.
Dictate a phrase using either gesture from practice. Your text should appear in the field.
Flow does not insert into password or credit-card fields or appear in password managers. The bubble is hidden in password, number and phone inputs; browser address bars and system notification quick replies are exceptions, even when otherwise excluded. Banking and financial-app hiding covers selected apps, not every app.
If connectivity drops during dictation, Flow saves audio for retry or makes completed text available to paste or find in History. The Back online. notification offers retry when your connection returns.
Warning: Do not sign out to troubleshoot — signing out deletes transcripts and their saved audio from your device.
If setup finishes but the bubble is missing or unresponsive, see Flow Bubble troubleshooting.
Resume setup or restore microphone access
If you close Flow during setup
Back opens Are you sure you want to exit?; Yes backgrounds Flow without completing setup, and No keeps it open.
Reopening returns you to a saved point rather than the exact screen — an introduction, language setup, permissions education, privacy, battery, notifications, or a survey question. Closing during a practice dictation repeats that practice, and finished practices are kept only after you continue to the next saved point.
Signing out clears unfinished setup progress, but completed setup stays completed.
If microphone access is missing later
After Ask every time or a denial, tapping or holding the bubble requests access again when Android permits. If Android no longer shows the request, including after an expired one-time grant, We can't hear you offers Go to Settings; on Home the same button is Allow Microphone.
Tap Go to Settings or Allow Microphone to reach Android's request or Wispr Flow's app settings.
Enable microphone access.
Retry a short dictation to check that text appears.
Still stuck?
Contact support if installation, sign-in or permissions still block setup. Include your device model, Android version, the failing step, any error message, and what you tried.
