Set up Wispr Flow for your first dictation

Mac and Windows

Download Flow from wisprflow.ai, then follow these steps.

1. Install Flow. Mac: open the download, drag Wispr Flow into Applications, and launch it — its icon appears in the menu bar. Windows: run the installer and launch Flow from Start — its icon appears in the system tray.

2. Click Sign in via browser and use Google, Apple, Microsoft, SSO, or email and password. Your session transfers back to Flow automatically; if it times out, click Sign in via browser again.

3. Grant microphone and Accessibility access on Mac, or microphone access on Windows. If a prompt was denied or dismissed, enable Wispr Flow in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone or Accessibility (Mac) or Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone (Windows). Setup skips this step when access is already granted.

4. Answer the setup questions and review the Privacy notice. If you select Other or Something else, enter a description to continue.

5. Speak during the Test your microphone step; the bars should rise. Use Change microphone to pick another input, or open Find the right mic for you to compare inputs and return to the mic test. For No microphone found, open Sound Settings and connect one; for In use by another app, open Sound Settings or restart Flow.

6. Set your shortcut with the keys you want or Edit shortcut, choosing Push to talk or Hands-free. Macs with an Apple fn key default to fn; Macs without it use Ctrl+Opt.

7. Select dictation languages or leave detection on automatic, then run the practice demos: press the shortcut keys simultaneously, speak, and release as instructed. Text appears in the demo window when it works, and each demo can be skipped. On Windows, ✓ finishes dictation and X cancels.

Choose your data preference (below), then click Explore Wispr Flow. Setup is complete when the Flow Hub opens. To dictate afterward, hold your shortcut in any app — pressing all keys of a multi-key shortcut together — or double-tap it for Hands-free.

iOS

Setup adds the Flow Keyboard, which you use to dictate.

1. Install Wispr Flow from the App Store and open it.

2. Sign in with Google or Apple, or tap More Options for Microsoft, SSO, or email and password. For a new email account, enter your email, password, and full name, then complete CAPTCHA and email verification — tapping the verification link signs you in.

3. Tap Go to Settings in the keyboard walkthrough, enable Wispr Flow and Allow Full Access, and confirm Flow appears in your keyboard list.

4. Grant microphone access on the practice cards, switch to the Flow Keyboard, tap its microphone, speak, then tap the checkmark to finish. Dictation inserts at the cursor or replaces selected text.

5. Complete the setup questions, entering a description if you choose Other. Choose data preferences and dictation languages, and allow or skip notifications. Languages chosen on another device carry over.

If you cannot finish the practice dictation, the switching instructions stay on screen and Next unlocks once the field contains non-blank text, including typed text. Setup finishes on the main screen; afterward, dictate with the Flow Keyboard's microphone in any app.

Android

Setup grants the permissions the Flow Bubble needs.

1. Install Wispr Flow from Google Play and open it.

2. Sign in with Google, Apple, Microsoft, SSO, or email and password. For a new email account, enter your email and full name, set and confirm a password that does not match your name, and verify your email — use Resend verification email if it does not arrive.

3. Tap Open Wispr Flow on the post-sign-in page to return to the app.

4. Allow Flow to appear over other apps, tap Agree on the consent screen, then tap Open settings and enable Wispr Flow's Accessibility permission. You can skip the separate background-running prompt.

5. Allow microphone access when the request appears over the app you are using.

6. Choose your languages, tap the Flow Bubble, and speak when Say something! appears; your words appear as text. Also practice the press-and-hold tutorial.

7. Choose your data preferences and allow or skip notifications. Setup finishes on the main screen, and the bubble appears when you tap a text field.
