What is Flow?

Last updated: April 24, 2026

Available on: Mac, Windows, iOS, Android (Beta)

Dictate anywhere you can type — 4x faster than typing. Flow transcribes your speech in real time, supports AI commands to edit your text, and adapts to your vocabulary over time.

What it is

Flow is a voice dictation app that works in any text field on your computer or phone. Press a hotkey, speak naturally, and Flow transcribes your words in real time. It adapts to your voice, learns your vocabulary, and can execute AI commands like "make this more professional" or "summarize this."

How it works

Overview

Flow runs in the background and activates when you press a hotkey. Speak naturally and your words appear as text wherever your cursor is — in any app, browser, or text field.

Key behaviors

  • Real-time transcription: Flow converts your speech to text as you speak, with no delay.

  • AI commands: Say instructions like "make this more professional" or "summarize this" and Flow edits your text accordingly.

  • Vocabulary adaptation: Flow learns your words, names, and technical terms over time for more accurate transcription.

  • Copy to clipboard: After a successful dictation, a copy-to-clipboard button appears next to the Flow bubble for a few seconds so you can quickly copy your transcribed text.

  • Retransform with tone presets: After transforming dictated text, refine it further by choosing a tone preset — Professional, Casual, Gen Z, or Partner — to rewrite it in a different style. You can also enter custom transform instructions for more specific adjustments.

  • Automatic background transform: For longer dictations, Flow automatically transforms your text in the background and shows a "Transform ready" notification. Click "Reveal edit" to review a diff of the suggested changes, then accept or dismiss them.

Desktop features

  • Flow Fetch: Flow automatically tracks URLs you copy to your clipboard. A link icon on the Flow bar opens a dropdown showing your recently copied links, displayed with readable labels — for example, Notion page titles or friendly names for apps like Claude or Loom. Click any link in the dropdown to copy it back to your clipboard. Links are stored locally for up to 14 days. Privacy-sensitive URLs (such as those containing authentication tokens or from password manager sites) are automatically filtered out.

  • Language switching: The language indicator on the Flow bar lets you quickly switch between your selected languages. Hover over it to reveal a chevron button — click the main language button to cycle through your saved languages one by one (then back to "all languages"), or click the chevron to open the full language picker.

  • The Hub: Your home base for dictation stats, transcription history, dictionary, snippets, styles, and insights. The Hub home page uses a two-column layout: the main area shows a welcome greeting with a time-of-day message and your dictation shortcut, plus hero banners and recent activity; a sidebar shows a stacked card widget with your dictation stats (words dictated, words per minute, and streak), voice profile status, and trial extension options. Word count stats are compared to familiar reference points like thank-you notes, news articles, and short film scripts.

  • Leaderboard: See how your word count stacks up against other Flow users in a weekly leaderboard. The leaderboard displays a podium view for the top three users, followed by a scrollable ranked list. Your position is highlighted so you can quickly spot where you stand. You can also share your results directly from the leaderboard.

iOS features

  • Notes: Dictate and save notes directly in the Flow app using the built-in microphone button. Notes are searchable via Spotlight, accessible from a lock screen widget or Control Center button, and can be created hands-free using Siri shortcuts. A quick AI summary is available on each note with a single tap.

  • Control Center widgets: Two Control Center widgets are available — one to toggle Flow recording on/off and one to open Flow Notes.

Android features

  • Personalization Styles: Flow automatically adjusts the tone of your dictation based on which app you're typing in. Set a style for app categories like Personal, Work, Email, and Other, and Flow applies the right tone automatically. Selecting a style override from the keyboard applies temporarily on top of your personalized settings — it does not replace them. Available tones vary by category: Personal supports Formal, Casual, and Very Casual; Work, Email, and Other support Formal, Casual, and Excited. Styles currently apply in English only.

  • Snippets: Create text expansion shortcuts so a short trigger word automatically expands into a longer phrase or sentence. Manage snippets from a dedicated screen in the app with search and filtering. Snippets sync across your devices automatically.

  • Flow bubble appearance: Customize the size and opacity of the Flow bubble from the Settings screen. Adjust transparency using a slider ranging from 20% to 100% — a live preview shows how the bubble will look. Tap Reset to restore the default 80% opacity.

  1. Enter your email address, full name, and a password (6–72 characters). Your password cannot be the same as your full name.

  2. Complete the CAPTCHA verification if prompted.

  3. Click the verification link sent to your inbox from support@wisprflow.ai. Check your Spam/Trash folder if you don't see it.

  4. Start using Flow once verified.

Examples

Dictating a message in any text field

You do: Place your cursor in a Slack message, press the hotkey, and say "Hey team, the design review is moved to 3pm tomorrow."

Flow types: Hey team, the design review is moved to 3pm tomorrow.

Using an AI command to edit text

You say: "Make this more professional."

Flow rewrites: The selected text is rephrased in a more polished, professional tone.

Refining transformed text with a tone preset

You do: After Flow transforms your dictation, select the "Casual" tone preset to rewrite it in a more relaxed style.

Flow rewrites: The transformed text is rewritten to match the Casual tone. You can also type custom instructions if none of the presets fit.

Reviewing an auto-transformed longer dictation

You do: Dictate a long passage. Flow automatically transforms it in the background and shows a "Transform ready" notification.

Flow does: Click "Reveal edit" to see a side-by-side diff of the changes. Accept the edits to apply them, or dismiss to keep your original text.

Retrieving a recently copied link with Flow Fetch

You do: Copy a link to a Notion page earlier in the day, then later need to paste it somewhere while dictating.

Flow does: Click the link icon on the Flow bar to open the dropdown. Find the Notion page (shown by its page title), click it, and the link is copied back to your clipboard — ready to paste.

FAQs

What's the default hotkey to start dictating?

Mac: Press the fn key (or Ctrl + Option if your keyboard lacks fn). Windows: Press Ctrl + Win.

Can I use Flow offline?

Flow requires an internet connection for voice transcription.

Is enterprise SSO supported?

Yes. Enter your work email address during sign-in and Flow identifies your organization's identity provider automatically.

Do Personalization Styles and Snippets sync across devices?

Yes. Both sync to your account automatically, so your preferences are always up to date across devices.

How do I switch languages while dictating on desktop?

Hover over the language indicator on the Flow bar to reveal the language controls. Click the main button to cycle through your saved languages one at a time (it loops back to "all languages" at the end). Click the chevron button to open the full language picker and choose any language directly.

How do I access my recently copied links?

Click the link icon on the Flow bar to open the Flow Fetch dropdown. It shows links you've copied recently, with readable labels. Click any link to copy it back to your clipboard. Links are kept for up to 14 days.

Does Flow Fetch store my copied links in the cloud?

No. Your copied links are stored locally on your device only and are never uploaded. Privacy-sensitive URLs — such as those from password manager sites or containing authentication tokens — are automatically filtered out and never saved.

How do I access Notes on iPhone?

Open Notes directly in the Flow app, tap the lock screen or Control Center widget, or use Siri shortcuts like "Create note with Flow" or "Save Flow note." Notes are also searchable from the iOS search screen.

Why doesn't the Flow bubble appear when I tap a text field on Android?

The Flow bubble appears and disappears based on whether the on-screen keyboard is visible. If you're using an external keyboard or the software keyboard is collapsed, the bubble does not appear. Bring up the on-screen keyboard first to use Flow in those cases.

Can I change how the Flow bubble looks on Android?

Yes. Adjust both the size and opacity of the Flow bubble from the Settings screen. Use the opacity slider to set transparency anywhere from 20% to 100% — a live preview shows the result before you save. The default opacity is 80% and the default size is 85%. Tap Reset to restore the default opacity at any time.

How does the leaderboard work?

The leaderboard ranks users by total words dictated for the current week. A podium view highlights the top three users, your position is highlighted in the list, and a share button lets you post your results. Rankings reset weekly.

When does my streak reset?

Day streaks reset to 0 if you go 48 hours without dictating. Week streaks reset to 0 after 14 days without dictating. Streak calculations are based on your local timezone.

Which tone presets are available for retransforming?

After transforming your text, choose from Professional, Casual, Gen Z, or Partner tone presets. You can also enter your own custom instructions for something more specific.

When does Flow automatically transform my dictation in the background?

Flow automatically transforms longer dictations in the background. When it's ready, a "Transform ready" notification appears — click "Reveal edit" to review the suggested changes and decide whether to accept or dismiss them.

Where did my dictation stats go in the Hub?

Your stats — words dictated, words per minute, and streak — have moved from the header bar to a sidebar card on the Hub home page. They're still always visible when you open the Hub.
