Pre-reads: get briefed before your meetings

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Available on: Mac only (rolling out gradually). Not available on Windows, iOS, or Android.

A Brief is a short AI-generated summary that arrives just before your meeting starts — who you're meeting, whether it's internal or external and 1:1 or group, and where it fits in a recurring series. There's nothing to set up: it's attached to your meeting reminder and saved to the meeting note.

When to use it

Use a Brief when you want to:

  • Get oriented before a call.

  • Recall where a recurring series left off.

  • Revisit context mid-meeting.

How it works in Flow

Overview

Briefings are bullet-first and easy to scan, written like a knowledgeable colleague flagging what matters.

Key behaviors

  • Context sources: the calendar invite (title, time, participants), how often you've met the people on it, and — once connected — your apps. Connect Slack, Gmail, Notion, and Google Calendar from Settings → Connectors for richer context than the invite alone.

  • Series continuity: mentioned only when your calendar confirms an earlier occurrence of the same recurring event — Flow won't call something a "first meeting" or "first in the series" by guesswork.

  • In the reminder: a summary title shows as a pill under the meeting name in the Flow Bar; click it to expand the full briefing inline, with bold, lists, and clickable links. If a briefing isn't ready in time, the reminder still appears as a compact card with the platform badge, meeting title, time, and action buttons.

  • In the meeting bar Brief card: the briefing shows as formatted text with citation chips and elaboration hover anchors folded into the prose. Brief rows are labeled "· Brief ⌄" with inline link favicons, and linked names wrap as clean prose.

  • In your meeting note: the briefing appears in the Brief tab of the meeting view, alongside Thoughts and Transcript. With no Brief yet, a dismissible Prep for your next meeting banner — with a Connect apps button and a Later link — appears while you're viewing the Summary; dismissing it is remembered.

  • In the hub: upcoming meeting rows preview the first paragraph of the linked note or Brief, and opening any meeting shows the full Brief in the right-hand preview below the summary. When a Brief has content but no generated title, the body text becomes the preview label on every surface.

Note: Before you connect any apps, hovering the Brief pill shows a "Want better context for your calls?" popover with an example briefing and a Connect apps button.

Links and source citations

  • Brand icons on links: GitHub, Notion, Figma, Linear, Google Docs, Slack, Zoom, Jira, and other recognized services show their logo; other sites show their favicon (omitted if it can't load — the link still works). Links open in your default browser from the reminder card, the meeting bar, or the meeting note.

  • Destination tooltips: hovering an inline link shows where it goes — "Slack channel", "Slack DM", "Slack thread", "Gmail thread", "Notion page", or "Opens example.com" — or a concrete name when available, such as a channel ("#02-team-business") or an email subject.

  • Citation pills: when a claim comes from a specific source, a pill with the source's icon and type ("Slack", "Gmail", "Calendar", "Notion", "Web", or "Meeting") appears at the end of the sentence; hovering shows the source name. Only real, concrete sources are cited — never an invented link or vague label.

  • Clicking a pill: clickable pills show a small "opens externally" arrow on hover. Slack pills open the original message, Gmail and Calendar pills open the respective app, and Meeting pills open that meeting's detail view inside Wispr Flow. A source with no usable link or meeting reference renders as a plain, non-clickable chip.

How Flow matches your meeting

  • Joining from Wispr is most reliable: the hub's Start button, the tray meeting menu, or the reminder's Join button attach the recording to the right calendar event, so the correct Brief and agenda land in your notes.

  • Native Zoom meetings match by time: a meeting started from the Zoom desktop app matches the calendar event happening then; if two overlapping events can't be told apart, Flow leaves the note unattributed rather than guessing.

  • Browser calls match by link: Zoom and Google Meet calls joined in a browser match on the meeting link. Joining from outside Wispr — Google Calendar's Join button, or a link in Slack — usually works, but an unmatched meeting gets no Brief.

FAQs

Why didn't I get a Brief for my meeting?

Solo and all-day events never generate Briefs, a briefing may not finish generating in time, or you joined from outside Wispr and the meeting couldn't be matched to a calendar event. If your device was offline when the Brief was requested, Flow retries automatically on its next attempt. Your reminder still appears as usual.

How do I see the full Brief?

Click the pill under the meeting name in the reminder to expand the briefing. It's also saved to the Brief tab of the meeting view and shown in the hub below the summary — see "How it works in Flow" above.

How do I connect or reconnect Google Calendar?

Open the hub's Meetings tab and find the "Connect your calendar" prompt, or the "Calendar disconnected" banner above your events.

  1. Click Connect Google Calendar.

  2. Finish signing in in your browser.

  3. Return to the hub — the banner disappears and your upcoming events and Briefs resume with a fresh sync.

How do I connect apps to get richer Briefs?

Go to Settings → Connectors. Google Calendar, Gmail, Slack, and Notion each appear as a card explaining how it enriches your Briefs, reminders, and summaries. Click Connect next to any app. A progress indicator shows how many of the four main connectors you've set up. Connected apps show a green check; if a connection needs attention, a Reconnect link appears on that card.

Why did my reminder disappear shortly after the meeting started?

Reminders appear in the Flow Bar shortly before your meeting and clear on their own once it's underway. If Flow detects that your meeting has already started, the reminder clears immediately.

Will my Brief content be overwritten when I'm taking notes?

Your Brief is preserved when you edit other parts of the note. If Flow regenerates your meeting summary after the meeting ends, that update may overwrite a manually edited summary, but your Brief content is kept intact.

Can I edit the Brief for a past meeting?

Briefs for past and in-progress meetings are read-only — the stored version is shown and nothing new is generated. Briefs for upcoming meetings can be viewed and edited in the Brief tab of the meeting view.

Limitations and notes

  • Google Calendar must stay connected and Meeting Recorder must be enabled — with Meeting Recorder off, no reminders or Briefs appear.

  • Disconnecting Google Calendar removes upcoming events and Briefs immediately on that device and within a few minutes on other signed-in devices, and meeting reminders for those events stop firing. Notes and recordings already linked to a meeting keep their event details (title, attendees, and speaker attribution).

  • Solo events (where you're the only attendee) and all-day events don't generate reminders or Briefs.

  • Declined meetings drop out of the Flow Bar, shortcut drawer, switch prompt, meeting shortcuts, and the macOS menu-bar title and tray rows, but still show on the Notetaker Upcoming page with Declined styling; re-accepting restores them after the next calendar sync.

  • Briefs are a quick orientation, not a full meeting brief.

  • The upcoming meetings list covers a limited window; meetings further out get a Brief once they fall within range.

  • Microsoft Teams and Superhuman connectors are not currently supported.

  • Gmail and Calendar citation pills open the general app rather than the specific email or event, and Meeting pills in already-generated Briefs stay non-clickable until the Brief is regenerated.

  • Brand icons on links appear only within Brief briefings; in the standalone notes web view, citations appear as plain text.

  • Provider icons (Zoom, Google Meet, Webex, and others) match across the reminder, the Flow Bar meeting drawer, and the Brief card; Webex uses a generic video icon.
