Try Flow in your apps (iOS post-onboarding experience)

After setup, Wispr Flow guides you through your first dictation in an app you already use — a note, a message, or an email. It's the fastest way to try Flow in your real workflow on day one.

How it works in Flow

Overview

The first time you open Wispr Flow, an intro carousel plays automatically. After onboarding, a welcome banner on the Flow home screen invites you to try dictation in a real app: pick an action, pick an installed app, and Flow opens it so you can start speaking.

Key behaviors

  • Intro carousel: Slides highlight Flow's key benefits — including that it's faster than typing and works across your apps. Slides advance automatically, and swiping manually resets the timer.

  • Auto-advance pauses: Auto-advance pauses while you touch or drag the carousel and resumes once your swipe settles. It also pauses when you switch to another app and resumes when you return to Flow, with the intro video picking up where it left off; swiping back to the intro slide resumes its video.

  • Get started button: Get started appears shortly after the carousel begins and stays tappable on every slide, so you don't need to watch the intro or swipe through all slides.

  • Get Flow on your computer: Some new iOS users see an optional step right after Allow Notifications highlighting that Flow is even more powerful on Mac and Windows. Tap Email me a download link to receive a link by email and see a confirmation, or tap I'll do this later to skip. This step is skipped automatically if you already use Flow on a desktop computer.

  • Welcome banner: The Flow home screen shows a "Welcome, [your name]!" banner with a Try Flow in your apps button. Tapping the X marks Try Flow as complete, unlocks the full app, re-enables your streak card, and stops the banner from reappearing.

  • Step 1 — Choose an action: A drawer slides up with three options: Jot down my to-dos, Send a quick message, or Clear my email inbox.

  • Step 2 — Pick your app: A second drawer shows the compatible apps installed on your device for that action. Tap one to open it and start dictating.

  • Switch keyboard guidance: If you reach the dictation step without switching to the Flow keyboard, switching instructions stay on screen and hide once you activate the Flow keyboard and dictation content appears.

Note: Only apps already installed on your device appear in the list. If an expected app isn't showing up, confirm it's installed and reopen Flow.

Common issues

Bugs fixed in recent updates

These issues were fixed in recent updates. Update Wispr Flow to the latest version from the App Store to get the fixes.

  • Carousel advanced mid-swipe: Slides could auto-advance while you were still touching or dragging. Auto-advance now pauses while you interact and resumes once your swipe settles.

  • Intro video stayed paused: The video could remain paused after returning from the background or swiping back to the intro slide. It now resumes automatically in both cases.

  • Blank screen after the intro: Skipping through the dictation step without switching to the Flow keyboard could show a blank screen. The "switch to the Flow keyboard" guidance now stays visible until the keyboard is activated.

  • Black flash or layout jump: When the carousel wrapped back to the first slide, the intro video card could flash black or shift. Slide transitions are now smooth.

  • Device ran hot or sluggish: Staying on the intro screen for an extended period caused heavy processing load. The carousel now runs efficiently in the background.

  • Banner text cut off on smaller iPhones: Text on the post-onboarding banner could be cut off or misaligned. It now wraps and aligns correctly on all device sizes.

  • Transparent subscription unlocked screen: The confirmation screen could appear transparent and hard to read. It now displays with a solid white background.

FAQs

Do I have to watch the intro carousel before I can get started?

No. Tap Get started at any point after it appears — you don't need to wait for the carousel to finish or swipe through all slides.

The welcome banner disappeared — can I still access the Try Flow experience?

The banner shows once after onboarding and won't reappear once dismissed. You can still use Flow in any listed app: open the app, tap into a text field, and activate Flow.

None of my apps are showing up in the list

No compatible apps for that action are installed. Try a different action, or install one of the supported apps and reopen Flow.

Does the app I pick affect how Flow works?

No. The selection only opens that app. Flow works the same way in all supported apps — tap a text field and activate Flow to start speaking.

Why is Flow asking to send me notifications after onboarding?

Flow requests notification permission to send reminders and tips as you get started. Opt out at any time in your iOS notification settings without affecting dictation.

My app isn't in the list — can I still use Flow with it?

Yes. Try Flow highlights a curated set of popular apps, but Flow works in virtually any app with a text field. Open the app, tap where you want to type, and activate Flow.

I didn't see the "Get Flow on your computer" step during onboarding — is something wrong?

No. This step is shown to some new iOS users and is skipped automatically if you already use Flow on a desktop. You can get a download link any time from the Unlock Flow on your computer page inside the app.

I tapped "I'll do this later" during the desktop download step — how do I get the link later?

Open the Unlock Flow on your computer page inside the Flow app and tap Email me a download link. The link is sent to your email address.

Limitations and notes

  • The Try Flow experience is available on iOS only.

  • Only supported apps installed on your device appear in the list; apps not on the list will not appear even if installed.

  • Dismissing the banner marks Try Flow as complete, unlocks the full app, and prevents the banner from reappearing.

  • Notification permission is optional — declining it does not affect Flow's dictation functionality.

  • The "Get Flow on your computer" onboarding step is shown to some new iOS users and skipped automatically for anyone who already has Flow on a desktop.
