Why Isn’t My Student Pricing Reflecting on My Account?
Last updated: June 1, 2026
Available on: Mac, Windows, iOS
If you've been approved for student pricing but still see standard rates — or you're not sure whether your application went through — this guide helps you sort it out. Most issues resolve in under 2 minutes.
Quick checks
Did you submit the student form? Student pricing requires a separate application — it's not automatic.
Has your request been approved? Approvals are processed by our team and may take a few days. Check your email for confirmation.
Are you looking at the right place? On Mac and Windows, student pricing appears under the "Pro" column — there's no separate "Student" label. On iOS, approved students see a "Student" card with student-specific pricing.
How to fix this
You haven't submitted the student form yet
Student pricing requires a separate application. Complete the student pricing form to get started — your request will be reviewed by our team, and you'll receive an email once a decision is made.
Your submission is pending review
Processing may take a few days. Once approved, your account is updated with student status and an extended trial period (approximately 90 days). You'll receive a confirmation email — no action needed on your end until then.
Note: The 90-day student trial is calculated from your account creation date by default. If you apply for student pricing months after signing up, your effective remaining trial may be shorter than 90 days. Support can recalculate the trial from your approval date instead, but this is at their discretion and is not automatic.
You're approved but still see standard pricing
Subscription details refresh approximately every hour. To force a refresh:
Restart the Wispr Flow app. On iOS, switching to another app and returning is enough — subscription data refreshes when the app comes to the foreground.
Sign out and sign back in if restarting didn't update the price.
Check the Plans screen. On Mac and Windows, the Pro column should show the discounted student price. On iOS, you should see a "Student" card with student-specific pricing. If you see the discounted price, you're done.
Tip: On desktop, you can also click the refresh icon next to the Plans & Billing page title to force a sync from your account. A 10-second cooldown applies between manual syncs.
If the discount still doesn't appear, your student status is correctly set on our end but the app hasn't picked it up — contact support for a manual refresh.
Note: If your student pricing temporarily disappears, it's usually a transient network issue. Make sure you're connected to the internet and restart the app.
You subscribed on desktop but use iOS
If you subscribed via desktop or web (Stripe), manage your subscription from the desktop app. The iOS app will show a "Go to desktop app to manage plan" message — this is expected.
Note: Tapping the "Go to desktop app to manage plan" message on iOS does nothing — it is purely informational. To manage your Stripe subscription, open the desktop app or website directly.
Common issues
iOS purchase or subscription restore wasn't recognized
This was caused by a timing issue on iOS where a purchase or restore could complete before the app finished setting up your account, preventing it from being linked properly. This has been fixed. To resolve:
Update Wispr Flow to the latest version.
Restart the app after updating.
FAQs
How does student pricing appear in the app?
On Mac and Windows, the Plans & Billing page has three columns: Basic, Pro, and Enterprise. For approved students, the Pro column displays student pricing instead of standard Pro pricing. The upgrade button reads "Upgrade to Pro" but creates a student subscription at the discounted rate.
On iOS, the plan upgrade card shows a "Student" title with student-specific pricing and an "Explore Plan" button. Once subscribed, students see a current-subscription view with their student plan details.
What features do students get?
Students get the same features as Pro users: unlimited words on all devices, Command Mode (desktop), early access to new features, and prioritized feature requests.
What's the student pricing?
Student pricing starts at $7.50/month, or $6/month when billed annually. These figures are USD defaults — the actual price you see is resolved server-side based on your IP location and is not user-selectable, so it varies by currency and country. Some users on legacy student plans may be on different (typically higher) rates.
On iOS, weekly, monthly, and yearly student plans are available through the App Store. Weekly student plans are App Store only — Stripe (desktop/web) offers monthly and yearly student plans only.
Can I earn referral rewards on a student plan?
Yes, if your subscription is managed through Stripe (desktop app or website). Student monthly and yearly Stripe plans are eligible to earn referral credit-months, which are credited after the referred person dictates 2,000 words.
Weekly student plans are App Store only and are not eligible for earning rewards. On the iOS app, App Store subscribers can still gift Flow to friends through the Refer a Friend menu, but they will not earn credit-months and the in-app screen shows a gifting-focused flow rather than a rewards flow.
If you have both an App Store and Stripe subscription on the same account, contact support — there is no automatic reconciliation.
Do students get a different trial period?
Yes. Approved students receive a roughly 90-day trial (compared to the standard 14-day trial). Contact support if your remaining trial doesn't reflect this after approval.
