Free tier weekly word cap and bonus words

On the Free plan, Flow limits how many words you can dictate each week. Here's how the count works, what the warning cards mean, when it resets, and how to lift the limit.

How the weekly limit works

Flow counts dictated words in a rolling weekly window, counts mobile words separately from desktop, and applies the limit to dictation only. Unused words don't carry over, and counts reset Sunday at 12 a.m. PT.

  • iOS: At 1,000 words dictation continues but slows down; at 1,500 words a card blocks new dictations. Both cards are titled Dictation limit reached and read "Dictation resets Sunday, 12 a.m. PT." with a Get unlimited access button.

  • Android: A heads-up card appears at 800 words and a "limit reached" card at 1,000 words, both on the first page of the home screen cards with a Get unlimited words button; dismiss either with the X. At 1,500 words dictation is capped until the weekly reset, and that card can't be dismissed even if you dismissed an earlier one.

  • Where to check your remaining words: On iOS, the weekly word card in the keyboard's ☰ drawer stays hidden until you have 200 or fewer words left, then counts down — for example "150 / words left this week / Upgrade for unlimited access." Tap it to open the Plans screen. The account menu shows your word usage; it's hidden for paid subscribers and replaced by "X of Y days used in trial" during a Pro trial.

  • Bonus words: If bonus words are granted, the message reads "Here are bonus words to keep dictating this week!" and you can keep dictating against the larger total.

Note: On iOS, past-due and paused subscriptions still count as paid, so the same account can be unlimited on iOS but limited on desktop.

Remove the limit

  1. Open Settings → Plans and Billing on desktop or iOS. On Android, tap Get unlimited words on the word-limit card or open the Plan page.

  2. Choose a paid plan and complete checkout. On iOS, Pro and Team plans list Unlimited access, and Flow Free shows as limited access. Students see a "Students get Wispr Flow free!" offer and a claim student plan screen instead of the standard paywall.

  3. Dictate to confirm the limit is gone. After buying Pro through Google Play, the limit lifts across the app without restarting. A plan change made on another platform reaches Android within about five minutes of dictating and applies the next time you press to dictate, not mid-dictation.

  • Bought on the web: manage your plan in the desktop app.

  • Bought on the App Store: use Cancel or Resubscribe in the iOS Manage Subscriptions sheet.

  • Bought on Google Play: manage your plan in the Play Store.

FAQs

Why don't I see a word count in the keyboard drawer?

On iOS, the weekly word card only appears once you have 200 or fewer words left. With bonus words, the card still waits until you're within 200 words of your larger total.

What happens when my Pro trial ends?

You move to Flow Free, shown as limited access, and the weekly dictation cap applies immediately. On iOS, a Trial Ended screen offers Keep unlimited access or the option to continue with limited access.

How long is my trial if it isn't the standard 14 days?

Trials with a custom length show their real length wherever the day count appears on iOS — the account menu, the keyboard Statistics card, and the Plan screen. A 319-day trial reads "6 of 319 days used in trial", not "6 of 14".

Do blocked dictations clear after the reset?

Yes. Blocked dictations and word-limit cards clear automatically at the Sunday 12 a.m. PT reset on iOS, Android, and desktop.
