Free tier weekly word cap and bonus words

New Wispr Flow accounts on Mac and Windows start on the free tier, which includes 2,000 dictated words per week. In your first week, reaching that limit automatically adds 8,000 bonus words so you can keep dictating, raising that week's cap to 10,000.
What it is
The free tier gives you 2,000 dictated words per week on Mac and Windows. The first time you reach that limit, Flow adds a one-time bonus of 8,000 words, extending that week's cap to 10,000. From the following week onward, the standard 2,000-word weekly limit applies. Your remaining word count updates in real time as you dictate.
Note: Some accounts start on a Pro trial instead of the free tier. Students, people who signed up through a referral link, members of a team or enterprise plan, and anyone who creates a team during onboarding all receive a trial rather than the weekly cap.
How it works in Flow
Overview
Flow tracks your dictated words in a weekly window that resets every Sunday. Your remaining words appear in up to three places: the sidebar upgrade card (when visible), the account menu, and Settings → Plans and Billing.
Key behaviors
Default cap: The free tier gives you 2,000 words per week.
Soft cap: Reaching 2,000 words triggers a notification stating that Flow will be slower.
First-week bonus: The first time you reach 2,000 words, Flow adds 8,000 bonus words automatically, raising your cap to 10,000 for the rest of that week.
Bonus notification: When the bonus is applied, you'll see: "You've hit your 2,000 word weekly limit — Here's 8,000 bonus words to keep going this week!" with a "Keep dictating" button and an "Upgrade" option. The bonus is already active when this appears; "Keep dictating" simply dismisses the notification.
Bonus duration: The 10,000-word cap lasts until the next Sunday reset. After that, the standard 2,000-word weekly cap returns.
Hard cap: Reaching the hard cap blocks new dictations until the weekly reset. The hard cap is 10,000 words during your bonus week, and 5,000 words in the weeks after.
Sidebar reminder during a bonus: While your bonus week is active, the sidebar reminds you that the higher cap applies to this week only and offers an upgrade for unlimited dictation.
FAQs
Why don't I have a Pro trial like other users I've seen?
New desktop signups start on the free tier with a weekly word cap rather than a time-limited Pro trial. A trial is still granted to students, people who sign up through a referral link, members of a team or enterprise plan, and anyone who creates a team during onboarding.
Can I still get a Pro trial?
Yes, through any of these routes:
Create a team during onboarding: Setting up a team as part of signup grants a Pro trial.
Sign up through a referral link: Referred users receive a 30-day Pro trial.
Student plans: Students follow the student plan path rather than the free tier.
Join a team or enterprise: Team members are covered by their team's plan.
You can also upgrade to a paid plan at any time from Settings → Plans and Billing.
I already had a Pro trial — did I lose it?
No. If your trial was already running, it continues to its original end date and nothing about it changes. The free tier applies to new signups only.
Do I get the 8,000 bonus words every week?
No. The bonus is a one-time grant for the first week you reach the 2,000-word limit. After that week ends, your cap returns to 2,000 words.
What's the difference between the soft cap and hard cap?
The 2,000-word soft cap triggers a notification that Flow will be slower. The hard cap — 10,000 words during your bonus week, or 5,000 words in the weeks after — blocks new dictations until your weekly count resets on Sunday.
Where can I see how many words I have left?
Your remaining word count appears in the sidebar upgrade card (when visible), the account menu, and Settings → Plans and Billing. It updates as you dictate.
When does my weekly word count reset?
Your word count resets every Sunday. Unused words do not carry over to the following week.
Can I upgrade to remove the weekly cap?
Yes. Go to Settings → Plans and Billing and upgrade to a paid plan. Paid plans remove the weekly word limit.
Limitations and notes
The free tier and bonus week are available on Mac and Windows only.
iOS uses separate, lower word limits (1,000 soft cap / 1,500 hard cap), tracks mobile words independently from desktop, and does not include the 8,000-word bonus. iOS warnings start at 800 words and repeat every 100 words after.
Android does not include the 8,000-word bonus.
The 8,000-word bonus is granted once — the first time you reach the 2,000-word limit.
Students, referred users, team and enterprise members, and users who create a team during onboarding are not placed on the free-tier cap. They receive a Pro trial or are covered by their plan.
Accounts with a Pro trial already in progress keep that trial until its original end date.
The weekly cap resets every Sunday. Unused words do not carry over.
The free-tier onboarding view ends and the standard usage view appears once you hit 2,000 words, your first-hit is recorded, or 7 days pass since onboarding — whichever comes first. This transition is one-way and permanent.
