Free tier weekly word cap and bonus words (Remove Desktop Trial experiment)
Last updated: June 3, 2026
Available on: Mac, Windows
Some new Wispr Flow accounts start on a free tier with a 2,000-word weekly limit instead of a Pro trial. The first time you hit that limit, Flow grants you 8,000 bonus words so you can keep dictating for the rest of the week — no upgrade required.
What it is
Eligible new signups get a free tier that tracks how many words you dictate each week. Your allowance resets every 7 days. The first time you reach the 2,000-word limit, Flow sends a notification and automatically adds 8,000 bonus words, raising your cap to 10,000 words for the rest of that week. Your remaining word count is visible throughout the app.
How it works in Flow
Overview
Flow tracks your dictated words in a rolling 7-day window. Your current cap — 2,000 words normally, or 10,000 during a bonus week — appears in the Hub account view, the sidebar, the plans and billing section, and the account modal.
Key behaviors
Default cap: Your free tier starts at 2,000 words per week.
First-hit bonus: The first time you reach 2,000 words, Flow automatically grants 8,000 bonus words for that week, raising your cap to 10,000.
Bonus notification: A notification appears when the bonus is applied. Click Keep dictating to continue — the bonus is applied automatically, no action required.
Bonus duration: The 10,000-word cap lasts until the end of your current 7-day period, then resets to 2,000 the following week.
Live usage display: The app updates your remaining words in real time — "X of 10,000 words left this week" during a bonus week, or "X of 2,000 words left this week" otherwise.
Eligibility
Not all new accounts are enrolled in this experience. You are not on the free-tier cap if you signed up through any of the following:
A referral link from an existing Wispr Flow user
A student program or education plan
An enterprise or team account
FAQs
Why don't I have a Pro trial like other users I've seen?
Wispr Flow is testing a new onboarding experience for some new signups. Instead of a time-limited Pro trial, eligible accounts start on a free tier with a weekly word cap. Referred users, students, and enterprise accounts have a different experience.
Do I get the 8,000 bonus words every week?
No. The bonus is a one-time grant for the first week you hit the 2,000-word limit. After that week ends, your cap resets to 2,000 words.
What happens when I reach the cap and there's no bonus left?
Dictation pauses until your cap resets at the start of the next 7-day period. You can upgrade to a paid plan at any time to remove the cap.
Where can I see how many words I have left?
Your remaining word count appears in the Hub account view, the sidebar, the plans and billing section, and the account modal. It updates as you dictate.
When does my weekly word count reset?
Your count resets on a 7-day rolling basis, timed to when your weekly period started.
Can I upgrade to remove the weekly cap?
Yes. Upgrade from the plans and billing section in your account settings. A paid plan removes the weekly word limit.
Limitations and notes
This free-tier experience is available on Mac and Windows for eligible new signups only.
The 8,000-word bonus is granted once — only the first time you reach the 2,000-word limit.
Referred users, students, and enterprise users are not enrolled in this experience and have a different onboarding flow.
The weekly cap resets every 7 days. Unused words do not carry over.
