Free tier weekly word cap and bonus words

New Wispr Flow accounts without a Pro trial start on the free tier, which includes 2,000 dictated words per week. Some free-tier accounts also receive an automatic 8,000 bonus words the first time they hit the weekly limit, raising the cap to 10,000 for that week.
What it is
The free tier gives you 2,000 dictated words per week on Mac and Windows. Some free-tier accounts also receive a one-time bonus of 8,000 words the first time they reach the weekly limit, extending that week's cap to 10,000 words. Your remaining word count updates in real time as you dictate.
Note: Not every free-tier account receives the 8,000-word bonus. If you don't see the bonus notification when you hit 2,000 words, your account is on the standard free tier with a 5,000-word hard cap.
How it works in Flow
Overview
Flow tracks your dictated words in a weekly window that resets every Sunday. Your remaining words appear in up to three places: the sidebar upgrade card (when visible), the account menu, and Settings → Plans and Billing.
Key behaviors
Default cap: The free tier starts at 2,000 words per week.
Soft cap: Reaching 2,000 words triggers a notification stating that Flow will be slower.
Hard cap: Reaching the hard cap blocks new dictations until the weekly reset. The hard cap is 5,000 words for accounts without the bonus, or 10,000 words during a bonus week.
First-hit bonus: The first time some accounts reach 2,000 words, Flow automatically grants 8,000 bonus words, raising the cap to 10,000 for the rest of that week.
Bonus notification: When the bonus is applied, you'll see: "You've hit your 2,000 word weekly limit — Here's 8,000 bonus words to keep going this week!" with a "Keep dictating" button and an "Upgrade" option.
Bonus duration: The 10,000-word cap lasts until the next Sunday reset. After that, the standard 2,000-word cap returns.
Sidebar reminder during a bonus: While a bonus week is active, the sidebar reminds you that the elevated cap applies to this week only and offers an upgrade for unlimited dictation.
FAQs
Why don't I have a Pro trial like other users I've seen?
Some new signups start on the free tier with a weekly word cap instead of a time-limited Pro trial. Referred users, students, and enterprise accounts have a different onboarding experience.
Do I get the 8,000 bonus words every week?
No. When granted, the bonus is a one-time grant for the first week you hit the 2,000-word limit. After that week ends, your cap returns to 2,000 words.
What's the difference between the soft cap and hard cap?
The 2,000-word soft cap triggers a notification that Flow will be slower. The hard cap — 5,000 words without the bonus, or 10,000 words during a bonus week — blocks new dictations until your weekly count resets on Sunday.
Where can I see how many words I have left?
Your remaining word count appears in the sidebar upgrade card (when visible), the account menu, and Settings → Plans and Billing. It updates as you dictate.
When does my weekly word count reset?
Your word count resets every Sunday. Unused words do not carry over to the following week.
Can I upgrade to remove the weekly cap?
Yes. Go to Settings → Plans and Billing and upgrade to a paid plan. Paid plans remove the weekly word limit.
Limitations and notes
The free tier and bonus week are available on Mac and Windows only.
iOS uses separate, lower word limits (1,000 soft cap / 1,500 hard cap), tracks mobile words independently from desktop, and does not include the 8,000-word bonus. iOS warnings start at 800 words and repeat every 100 words after.
Android does not include the 8,000-word bonus.
When granted, the 8,000-word bonus is provided once — the first time you reach the 2,000-word limit.
Referred users, students, and enterprise or team accounts are not enrolled in the free-tier cap and have a different onboarding flow.
The weekly cap resets every Sunday. Unused words do not carry over.
The free-tier experience ends and the standard trial or cap UI appears once you hit 2,000 words, your first-hit is recorded, or 7 days pass since onboarding — whichever comes first. This transition is one-way and permanent.
