Fake Android Apps Impersonating Wispr Flow

Last updated: June 15, 2026

Available on: Android

If you're seeing word limits despite having a Pro subscription, being asked to pay for features you already own, or your subscription isn't syncing — you may have installed a fake Wispr Flow app. This guide helps you spot imposters and get the real app. Most cases are resolved in under 5 minutes.

Warning: Fake apps on the Google Play Store are impersonating Wispr Flow. These apps are not created or managed by us, and some may attempt to collect payment information or subscriptions.

Quick checks

  • Check the package ID. Open the app's Play Store listing and confirm the package ID is com.wispr.flowapp. If it's anything else, the app is fake.

  • Check the name spelling. The official app is "Wispr Flow" — not "Whisper Flow" or any other variation.

  • Check for in-app purchases. The official Wispr Flow app does not sell subscriptions inside the app. Subscriptions are purchased on wisprflow.ai (or via iOS) and synced to Android. If the Android app prompts you to make a purchase, asks for credit card details, or shows a Google Play in-app purchase sheet, it's fake.

Signs of a fake app

You likely have a fake app if any of the following are true:

  • Word limits appear even though you have a Pro subscription.

  • Payment is requested for features you've already purchased.

  • In-app purchases are offered. The official app does not offer any in-app purchases — subscriptions are purchased on wisprflow.ai, not inside the Android app.

  • Your subscription doesn't sync to the Android app. If you just upgraded on the web, sign out and back in to force a sync.

  • Terms or privacy links go to unfamiliar websites.

  • The name is misspelled as "Whisper Flow" instead of "Wispr Flow".

  • Android versions below 13 are listed as supported. The official app requires Android 13 or higher.

  • Offline voice-to-text is claimed. The official app requires an internet connection to transcribe and won't work offline.

  • The Flow Bubble appears in financial apps (banking apps, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Google Wallet). The official app automatically hides the bubble in banking and finance apps for security.

  • The Flow Bubble appears in password, numeric, or phone number input fields. The official app automatically hides the bubble in these fields for security. Exceptions: browser URL bars and inline notification reply boxes — the official app does show the bubble in those contexts even if they look numeric or sensitive.

  • The microphone stays active when no dictation is in progress. The official app stops recording when you tap the checkmark, release the long press, or cancel.

Note: During active dictation, the Flow Bubble intentionally stays visible even if the keyboard closes. This is normal behavior in the official app.

How to fix this

  1. Uninstall the fake app. Long-press the app icon and tap Uninstall. Confirm the app is gone from your app drawer.

  2. Check whether you gave payment information to the fake app. If you did, contact your bank or payment provider right away to flag the transaction.

  3. Report the fake app on its Play Store listing by tapping Flag as inappropriate.

  4. Visit wisprflow.ai/android for the verified download link to the official app.

  5. Confirm the package ID on the Play Store listing is com.wispr.flowapp before installing.

  6. Open the official app and dictate a short phrase. If the Flow Bubble appears and your text is transcribed correctly, you're set.

Tip: Drag the bubble and drop it on the circular target that appears near the bottom of the screen to snooze it for 10 minutes. Shake your phone to bring it back, or tap End snooze now on the home screen.

FAQs

How do I report a fake app?

Open the fake app's listing on the Google Play Store and tap Flag as inappropriate. You can also report it through the official Wispr Flow app: open the app drawer (top-left hamburger) and tap Report an issue in the Support section. The screen opens on the Share feedback tab by default — select the Report an issue tab, then choose the request type that fits: Issue, Billing, or Account management. You can attach one image (PNG, JPEG, BMP, or WebP, up to 10 MB).

How do I report a specific bad transcription?

Tap Report transcription on the transcript card on the home screen. This automatically includes the transcript text, audio reference, device info, and app version with your report, and is useful for distinguishing fake-app behavior from real transcription errors. The transcript is uploaded first; reports cannot be sent if the upload fails.

What is Wispr doing about fake apps?

Our legal team is actively working to remove imposter apps from the Google Play Store. We take this seriously and are doing everything we can to protect our users.

I already paid a fake app. Can I get a refund?

Contact Google Play support to request a refund for the fraudulent purchase. Then contact your bank or payment provider to flag the transaction and prevent further charges.
