Supported devices and system requirements
Last updated: September 29, 2026
Available on: Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android.
Check your operating system, hardware, and permissions before installing Wispr Flow. A working microphone is required on every platform.
Device requirements at a glance
Platform | Operating system and device | Memory and free storage |
Mac | macOS 12 Monterey or later; Apple Silicon or Intel. | 8 GB RAM recommended; about 500 MB free. |
Windows dictation | Windows 10 or 11; x64 processor. | 8 GB RAM recommended; about 200 MB free. |
Windows Notetaker | Windows 10 or 11 on a supported Windows PC. | 16 GB RAM and 2 GB free storage required. |
iPhone | iOS 18.3 or later; iPhone only. | 4 GB RAM recommended; about 500 MB free. |
Android | Android 13 or newer; smartphone with an accelerometer. | 6 GB RAM recommended; about 500 MB free. |
Note: A Windows PC that runs dictation may not meet Notetaker's higher requirements.
iPad, Linux, Chromebooks, virtual machines, and remote desktop environments are not supported. Android tablets and foldables may work but are not officially optimized; devices without an accelerometer cannot install Flow from Google Play. See Android system requirements.
The iPhone app runs in portrait only, and Android setup is portrait-only on every device.
Mac Notetaker system-audio requirements
On macOS 12, Notetaker cannot capture system audio, and its meeting-audio setup row is hidden.
macOS 13.0–14.3: Grant Screen Recording, then restart Flow to apply the permission.
macOS 14.4 or later: Grant System Audio Recording Only; no restart is needed.
The “Allow Wispr to capture meeting audio” row in meeting setup is advisory, not required to finish setup.
Managed devices
On a managed device, your administrator may need to allow installation or permissions. Mac MDM can pre-approve Accessibility but cannot pre-approve Microphone access — each user must approve it. See Deploy Wispr Flow via MDM.
Setup requirements by platform
On Mac and Windows, grant each required permission before selecting Continue. If a permission request times out, try again or restart Flow.
Mac
Flow quits on unsupported macOS (“Unsupported MacOS Version”), with the Intel app on Apple Silicon (“Incorrect App Version”), or outside an Applications folder (“Move Flow to Applications folder”).
Download the installer matching your processor; see Install Wispr Flow on Mac.
Move Flow to /Applications, /Users/<your name>/Applications, or /System/Applications.
Click Allow for Microphone during setup.
Click Allow for Accessibility so Flow can insert dictated text.
Flow accesses the microphone only while you actively use it. Screen Recording is optional for dictation setup; macOS may request it for screen-reading features.
Revoking Microphone or Accessibility blocks dictation. Use Grant Permission for Microphone or Open Settings for Accessibility; Flow opens the matching System Settings privacy pane, and a first microphone request shows the macOS prompt.
Windows
Windows on ARM and Snapdragon are unsupported: on non-x64 processors, Flow shows “Unsupported Windows Architecture” and quits. Setup requests only Microphone, not Accessibility, and Windows opens Settings rather than an in-app prompt.
Click Open Settings to open Windows Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
Enable both Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone.
The “Microphone access is disabled” warning uses the same Open Settings action. For “Update admin settings to paste!”, run Flow as Administrator.
Per-user and machine-wide installers are available. See Installing Wispr Flow on Windows.
iPhone
Flow uses a system keyboard; setup completes only after Full Access is detected.
Note: Full Access lets Flow work across your apps. Wispr never stores or sells what you say.
Tap Set up on “Let's set up Flow”.
Tap Go to Settings.
Enable Full Access in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Flow → Allow Full Access.
Allow microphone access when prompted.
Without Full Access, the keyboard's Finish setup button opens Settings. Keyboard permission buttons open the app or Settings because the keyboard cannot show system permission prompts.
If you previously denied microphone access, enable it in iOS Settings — iOS will not prompt again. Use Open Settings in Flow's microphone alert or Go to Settings in the keyboard's “Microphone access denied” message. Flow rechecks permissions when you return.

Android
Microphone, Display over other apps, and the main Flow Accessibility service are required.
Note: The Accessibility consent notice explains that Flow reads on-screen text and field layout, app/website names and URLs, and limited text-box contents. Flow does not insert into password or credit-card fields or appear in banking apps or password managers. You control data use for improving Flow and can turn Accessibility off in Settings.
Allow Microphone when prompted.
Tap Open Settings to enable Display over other apps.
Tap Open settings on “Allow Wispr Flow to paste in your dictations”.
Choose Agree on “Accessibility Permissions Required” if shown; Not now leaves Settings closed.
Find Installed apps (Samsung), Wispr Flow (Vivo/Motorola), or Downloaded apps (others).
Enable Wispr Flow, leaving Wispr Flow shortcut off; an enabled shortcut blocks setup.
Tap OK on Xiaomi devices to confirm Accessibility access.
The Accessibility step advances when access is granted and the shortcut is off. If Accessibility is enabled but unresponsive, select Restart Flow on “Flow isn't responding”.
Battery optimization exemption is recommended, not required, on every Android device: Allow requests it, Skip continues without it. Pixel needs no additional manufacturer setup; other manufacturers add background restrictions. Follow Android permission and battery setup for device-specific instructions.
Without microphone access the bubble stays visible but cannot dictate. Tapping or pressing and holding it shows the Android microphone prompt while the system still allows it; a one-time (“Only this time”) grant works normally until it lapses. Once Android stops prompting — after a lapsed one-time grant or a permanent denial — use Go to Settings on the “We can't hear you” sheet, or Allow Microphone on a missing-permission card, to open Flow's app settings and turn the microphone back on. Android selects the microphone automatically; there is no in-app picker.
Microphone choice
Mac and Windows: Choose Settings → General → Microphone → Change, or the Flow Bar status menu → Microphone. This applies to dictation; Notetaker always uses Auto-detect, the system default input.
iPhone: Settings → Audio → Built-in mic forces the device microphone for all dictations. With it off, iOS chooses the input and allows Bluetooth hands-free microphones; there is no per-device list. Connecting or disconnecting a headset, or an interruption such as an incoming call, stops dictation.
With a Mac laptop's lid closed, the picker marks the built-in mic “Laptop lid is closed”. Use Select microphone in the “Your laptop lid is closed” warning to choose an external mic; if no other preferred microphone is connected, Flow falls back to the built-in mic.
Still stuck?
On Mac and Windows, use the action matching your microphone error:
No microphone detected: Connect a mic or select an input through Open Sound Settings, not privacy settings.
Selected microphone is unavailable: Use Choose Microphone.
Microphone unavailable: Another app may be using the mic or the driver may be stuck; close mic-using apps and retry.
Unable to access mic: Select Restart App.
If Flow still will not install or detect your microphone, test the mic in another app and recheck permissions. Contact support with your platform, operating system version, device model, exact error message, and what you tried.
